In memory of

Elizabeth Insigne Ercilla

February 2, 1963 -  September 14, 2021

It is with great sorrow we announce the loss of Elizabeth, who passed away peacefully at home in her 58th year. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Proud Mother to Christine Mhica (Ryan), and Loving Sister to Evelyn (Tony), Jocelyn and Maria Eliza (Lito). Elizabeth will also be dearly missed by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and her loving dog, Peso. Elizabeth is predeceased by her parents Teofilo (d.2020) and Lucia (d.2003).

Elizabeth was a cheerful, friendly person and spent most of her adult life helping people. Social work was her passion from an early age as attested by her childhood friends and organizations she had worked with in the Philippines and here in Canada. She worked at Malate Catholic church where, in her capacity as parish social worker, she was held in high esteem by a large number of Columban missionaries assigned in the parish. They regarded her as a friend, an excellent social worker and a person with a great love for the poor. In partnership with a variety of Program Directors, Elizabeth initiated and helped developed programs for street children, pre-school children, the physically and mentally handicapped, abused women, vocational training, livelihood and community building. Group of families and colleagues establish a community-based programs for disabled people and their families. When Elizabeth and Christine Mhica moved to Canada in 2006, her passion for social work was still strong. She pursued and graduated from Medix School in the Social Worker program. The Canadian Association of Social Workers certified her qualifications as equivalent to the Canadian Bachelor of Social Work Degree.

A funeral service will be held in Elizabeth’s memory on Friday, September 24th, 2021 at 3:00 pm at YORK FUNERAL CENTRE. Due to COVID- 19, capacity in our facilities are limited; therefore, we recommend reaching out to the immediate family to confirm your interest in attending prior to the event. In lieu of flowers, the Ercilla family kindly asks that you consider making a donation to Trillium Health Partner’s – Mississauga Hospital or Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care in Elizabeth’s memory. The Ercilla family greatly appreciates your support during this difficult time.

I am eternally grateful for Beth’s support in helping me raise Danique …. and Tuxedo. We all love her so much and have many fond memories of her time with us. From making toys of recycled material in our home, to school art projects - Beth was the calmness and rock in our sometimes turbulent lives. Reliable, knowledgeable, empathetic, trustworthy, friendly, everybody always has a good word to say about Beth. You have made an everlasting and loving impression. You are in our hearts and thoughts for as long as we live. Rest In Peace Beth. Wishing your daughter, your family, Peso and your friends incredible strength with this enormous loss. You will be missed and will live on in our hearts.

Elizabeth was born on Feb. 2, 1963. She completed her university degree from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (University of the City of Manila) in the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. When she migrated to Canada, she pursued further studies in the field of Social Work at Medix College.
She worked as Social Worker in the Philippines for 20 years. She worked first with Malate Catholic Church and later on with the Inter Country Adaption Board in Quezon City where she was loved by many. One of the youngest employee that she encountered there remembered how Elizabeth gave her many advice and encouraged her in so many ways. She was an asset to the organization, touched and helped so many lives and fulfilled their ho pes and dreams of having a child of their own through adaption.
She travelled to Finland as part of her Social Worker duties. She travelled to Japan with her only daughter Mhica and sister Liza to visit visit their father Teofilo and sister Jocelyn (Josie) before migrating to Canada. A loving and dedicated daughter to her mom Lucia. She gave her very best also to her dad before he passed away inspite of her own sickness she tried to see him for the last time last January 2020.
She is the rock of the family. She told us siblings of four that she is the Keeper of the family. A good niece to her aunts and uncles in the best way she can. She treated our younger cousin Glendale (Len) as if her own child. She grew up calling her MOMMY. She brought into our lives also two children D CALLED HER MOMMY. SHE HAD ALSO LET 2 CHILDREN IN OUR LIVES TO JOINC OUR FAMILY WHILE SHE WAS WORKING ON THE STREET CHILDREN IN MALATE PANGGOY AND NINJA WHO HAD A GOOD LIFE NOW AND CAN STAND ON THEIR OWN. SHE HAD BEEN AN ADVOCATE TO MANY. A SHOULDER TO CRY ON AND A GOOD ADVICER FOR HER COUSINS. A GOOD FRIEND TO LEAN ON AND A CARING AND LOVING PERSON TO HER SISTERS. ELIZABETH'S LIFE IS AN INSPIRATION TO MANY. IN HER 4 YEARS, STRUGGLING IN CANCER SHE HAD KEPT HER FAITH. SHE DIDN'T LET GO UNTIL SHE SETTLED EVERYTHING AND JUST NEED TO BE EXECUTED EVERYTHING SHE LEFT BEHIND. SHE KEPT A GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH. IN HER LAST BREATH, IN THE MIDST OF THE SUFFERING AND PAIN SHE CONTINUE TO GIVE THANKS AND PRAISE TO OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST. SO ON THAT DAY THAT SHE LEFT HER BODY THE HEAVEN REJOICED. WHILE LAYING BESIDE THE WINDOW A LOUD THUNDER ROAR, THE RAIN POURED SO HARD THAT IT HITS THE WINDOW GLASS. WE BELIEVE THAT THE HEAVENS OPEN AND NANAY AND TATAY IS WELCOMING HER. YOU HAD FUN WITH THEM ATE BETH AND TO THE OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS THAT HAD GONE BY AND SAY GOODBYE TO THIS WORLD BUT NOT TO THE LIFE TO COME.
YOUR LIFE IS A LIVING TESTIMONY. WE LOVE YOU AND WE WILL DEARLY MISSED YOU.
