In memory of
Elizabeth Ann Hogan-Cannella
October 2, 1942 -
July 25, 2023
Hogan-Cannella, Elizabeth Ann passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. She was born in 1942 in Sudbury, Ontario, the eldest child of Mary Ann Regan and Thomas Dunn Hogan. An adored only child for three years Betty made space in her heart for five siblings who entered her nursery one year after another, leaving her quiet life just a memory.
Betty resumed her quiet life when she left home, graduated from Western University, taught English and married John Cannella. She lived a contemplative life reading from a collection of over two thousand books. Betty studied many aspects of cultural life including literature, drama, photography, wrote poems, plays and was a member of the International Charles Dickens Society for decades. Betty was also a talented figure skater and enjoyed the sport well into her senior years. She was delighted that the Sudbury Theatre Centre was built almost next door to her family home. Betty was a devout Roman Catholic who prayed the liturgy of the Hours and Rosary daily.
She will be missed dearly by her siblings Jane Hogan, Gail Balfe, Noreen Russell, Tom Hogan, and Cathy Hogan. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her niece and Goddaughter, Noreen Balfe (Steve) and nephew and Godson Ryan Russell as well as nieces and nephews Bill Balfe (Carrie), Sarah Russell-Smith, Jamie Russell, Kelsey Hogan, Colleen Singbush, Jennifer Wilks, Michael, Robert and Peter Hogan and great nephew and nieces Alexander Balfe, Lauren and Allison Smith. We would like to thank the Greer Road neighbours and Cannella Family who supported Betty during a long illness.
At the end of this life Betty was a glowing spirit ready to unite with God and rejoice with choirs of angels for all eternity.
Visitation will take place at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023, at 1 pm with Service in our Chapel at 2 pm followed by interment.
In lieu of flowers donations in Betty’s memory can be made to Saint Michael’s Hospital diabetes and blood cancer research departments.
