ELIAS (ELIA) ANTONI
August 18, 1945 – August 21, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elia Antoni, of Toronto, Canada at the age of 77. He passed away at Baycrest Hospital after a battle with cancer. Loving son of the late Zenon and Maria (nee Lucas) Antoni. Proud father of Michael (Cyndi) and David (the late Rebekah). Proud granddad of his 8 grand children, Suzanna, Jecilyn, Darren, Nicholas, Jasmyn, Caitlyn, Dylan, Evan and two great grand-children, Benjamin and Viktoria. Dear brother of Fotis and Gina (Paul), Lucy (Ken), Terry (Reg). He
will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, aunt, cousins and friends.
Elia was born in Marathovounos, Cyprus on August 18, 1945 the eldest child of Maria and Zenon Antoni where he lived until the family emigrated to London, England in 1952. Elia quickly became immersed in the “London scene”. He loved the music and the fashion of that time, Elvis was his idol, choosing to be ‘a rocker’ not ‘a mod’. Although school was not his forte, Elia was very disciplined when it came to his other love “body building”. He followed our parents footsteps and went to work in the garment industry, and here he started His career as a cutter.
In 1964, the family moved again, this time to Toronto, Canada. In 1966 Elia married Anita, a girl also from Cyprus via London; and they had their two sons Michael and David. They started their own company, Antoni Fashions, a leading company at the time of lady’s high-end clothing. They lived in north Toronto where they enjoyed hosting many dinner parties and their home was always open to family and friends. Unfortunately, as things sometimes happen in life their marriage ended and the
business closed. Being as resilient as he was, he took a totally different path by working in the security guard business even living in Karachi, Pakistan for a short while. Elia volunteered at Baycrest Hospital as a porter, he made many friends while there, and was fondly remembered. He was always looking for adventure and was up for anything.
The family would like to thank Baycrest Hospital and the all the staff on 6W for the excellent care Elia received during the past few months. Thank You!
Elia will be sadly missed by his friends and family.
Visitation will be held at York Cemetery and Funeral Home on Monday, August 29 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, directly followed by a funeral service and reception.
