In memory of

Elena Scharkov

August 15, 1947 -  January 12, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved mother and Baba. She leaves behind her sons, John (and his wife Dora) and Gary (and his wife Rachel), as well as her cherished grandchildren: Samantha, Stephen, Anthony, Victoria, James, and Lily.

Our mother was a fiercely independent woman, known for her strength, determination, and robust health. She loved gardening and took joy in walking daily with her good friend Gloria, often covering an impressive 20 kilometers.

2024 was a particularly fulfilling year for her. She traveled extensively and reveled in the love and company of her family. She journeyed to Macedonia to be with her sister, Violeta, and visited Ottawa with Gary and Rachel to support James in a karate tournament. She also traveled with John and Dora to the breathtaking Rockies, where they explored Jasper and Banff and marveled at the stunning beauty of the Canadian mountains.

Her legacy of strength and her love for her family will forever be remembered.

There are no goodbyes for us.
Wherever you are, you will
always be in our hearts

What a beautiful, productive life your Mom had. I know she was dearly loved by her family. I think as a mother, the greatest testament of success to me would be how much I was loved by my children, so I know she achieved this beyond what she could ever have dreamed of. I know her life was an inspiration to you all. An example of a life to strive for.

John & Dora, very sorry to hear Mrs. Scharkov’s passing. She’s a wonderful client in our office. I used to chat with her a lot when she came. She’s always so active & her face lit up when she talked about your kids.
Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.
Elena will be missed.
