Elena Maria Covacich

Passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side after a strong and courageous battle with cancer on December 17, 2016. Predeceased by her beloved husband Marcello. A truly one-of-a-kind mother and hero to Alberto and Daniela and her husband Kent Lee. Cherished Nonni to Kendra and Ryan and many others who wanted a Nonni. Devoted sister to Maria Rosa Bose and loving aunt to Cristiano (Emanuela), Valentina (Marco), Max (Lisa) and Monica. Elena will be held dear in the hearts of many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Born in the seaside village of Umago, Italy and raised in Trieste, Italy. She immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1963 where she was married. She retired from the University of Toronto where she worked at Scarborough Campus and Robarts Library. She volunteered her time with the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) at St. Joseph’s Church in Highland Creek and was committed to supporting many church initiatives over the years. She had a passion for enjoying the simple things in life like nurturing her garden, cooking, knitting, exercise classes, spending time with family and meeting up with friends at the West Hill Social Activity Club. The family sends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Irene Ying and to the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital, especially the kind staff of the palliative care team, K-Wing. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11am, at St. Joseph’s Church, 200 Morrish Road, Scarborough, ON M1C 1E8 where Elena was an active member.
