In Loving Memory of Elaine Maria Gomes

February 15th, 1934 – September 30th, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved, Elaine Gomes, on September 30th, 2023, at the age of 89. She left this world surrounded by the love of her family, just as she lived her life—surrounded by love.

Born on February 15th, 1934 in Berbice, Guyana, Elaine was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love throughout her lifetime. Her journey was marked by countless moments of selflessness, resilience, and boundless love for her family and friends.

Elaine was the heart and soul of our family. She devoted her life to nurturing and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, instilling in us the values of love, compassion, and togetherness. Her kitchen was a place where countless memories were created, and her delicious recipes will forever be cherished.

A woman of faith, Elaine found solace in her spirituality. She was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church, finding strength in her beliefs and sharing that strength with those around her.

Elaine had an absolute love for life. Whether it was spending time with family and friends, tending to her plants, or sharing stories from her own life, she had a way of making everything feel special. Her laughter was infectious, and her wisdom was boundless.

Elaine is survived by six of her children, Ignatius, Anthony, Veronica, Albert, Alfred and Ursula, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever carry the love and wisdom she bestowed upon them.

As we bid farewell to our dear Elaine, we find comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with those who have gone before her, especially her beloved husband, George Gomes, her daughter, Lucia Gomes, her parents, Emmanuel Sr. and Dora De Silva, and her siblings, Emmanuel Jr., Frank, John, Victor, Augusta and Nelly. Their love and warmth will once again fill her days.

A funeral service to celebrate Elaine's life will be held on Saturday October 7th, 2023 at 9am located:

Meadowvale Funeral Centre
7732 Mavis Road
Brampton, Ontario L6Y 5L5

Elaine will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to guide us through life's journey. She may be gone from our sight, but she will never be gone from our hearts.

Rest in peace, dear Elaine, for your love will live on in us all.

Loosing a loved one is the most difficult thing anyone can go through. Especially loosing a mother. Sadly death doesn’t discriminate. My sympathy and condolences to the family at this most difficult time. Know you’re in my thoughts and prayers. Aunty Elaine I will always remember you as an elegant lady who was all dressed to the nines. You were always kind and loving towards me and my family. You will be dearly missed. Rest now until we are reunited in the next world by the grace of God.

Driving from Ottawa to Auntie Elaine's funeral the sun was setting with the most beautiful colours. It was as if she was looking down and smiling, watching over our travels.
