In memory of

Eileen Margaret Bruce

August 2, 1948 -  March 10, 2023

It is with an immeasurable amount of sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Eileen Bruce, who died after a brief illness from heart and lung complications on March 10, 2023.

Eileen was born on August 2, 1948 in Glasgow, Scotland, and immigrated to Canada with her beloved husband, Donald, in 1970. Eileen was the daughter of Andrew and Ena Young and the sister of Bill, Drew, and Lynda. She grew up in the Craigbank area of Glasgow, where she met her future husband, Donald, when they were both in their early adolescence. They dated throughout their teenage years and eventually married as young adults in September 1969.

In her teenage years, Eileen trained as a hair dresser and continued in the profession into her early 20s. In 1970, she and ‘Donnie’ (as she preferred to call him) immigrated to Canada. Their son Andrew was born in 1971, and they then briefly returned to Scotland. After a short stint there, they decided to return to Canada and permanently settled in 1972. Their youngest child, Pamela, was born there in 1973.

Upon returning to Canada, Eileen made a career change and started working at the Royal Bank of Canada in 1974. She was well loved by her Royal Bank coworkers and customers alike and worked at a number of branches in Scarborough for nearly 40 years until her retirement in 2013.

Eileen had a passion for spending time with her family and friends. She was a beloved member of the squash and soccer communities of Scarborough as Donnie was a keen player of both sports. She was equally supportive in watching the games and activities of Andrew and Pamela, as well as her grandchildren, Braydon and Kaitlyn, and son-in-law, Scott. She loved drinking tea in the mornings and doing her various puzzle activities. She loved watching Coronation Street and numerous police dramas on TV. Having tea or dinner with her friends was always dear to her heart. Her ties to family back in Scotland were extremely strong, and she enjoyed regular trips back to see them or hosting them when they came to visit Canada.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Donnie, her children Andrew and Pamela, her grandchildren Braydon and Kaitlyn, her brothers Bill and Drew, many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law in Scotland, Canada, and Australia.

She is predeceased by her cherished younger sister Lynda, and parents, Andrew and Ena.

The funeral service will be live-streamed on the link below.

To say we were shocked is an understatement to hear the passing of Eileen Bruce. We send our condolences and prayers to you and your family. May you feel the loving arms of Jesus at this time. I can’t comprehend just how sad you must feel about the loss of someone you love. This sorrowful time must still feel unreal, and you’re looking for strength from above. I hope, from my heart, that your pain will decrease, that your spirit will gain strength again, and I pray that your faith will create inner peace and that God will send blessings--Amen.
