In memory of

Edward Richard Sumner

October 11, 1934 -  December 29, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Sumner, a loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, and cherished friend, who left this world peacefully on December 29, 2024 at the age of 90 with his family by his side.
Born on October 11, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario, Edward was a man of remarkable character, kindness, and compassion. He lived a life defined by love, hard work, and dedication to his family, church and community.
Edward had a successful career spanning over 40 years in the advertising industry as a radio and TV commercial producer. When not working, some of his favourite activities included photography, curling, camping and golfing. He was a voracious reader and completed the crossword daily. Travelling was a great joy and Ed and Maxine enjoyed many wonderful trips together. Most of all, Ed enjoyed gathering with family and friends. Not to be forgotten was his love for his dachshund, Grafton, who brought him no end of enjoyment.
Ed always brought warmth and laughter to those around him.
Above all, Edward’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Maxine, his sons Wendell (Sharon), Greg (Renata) and Mark (Julie) and his grandchildren, Alison (Jesse), Laura (Cody), Sierra (Brett) and Wesley. He was a steady guide, a wise counselor, and a source of unconditional love. His strength and love for others will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Edward’s legacy is one of integrity, humility, and deep care for others. He taught us all the value of family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at The Simple Alternative Funeral Home, 1057 Brock Road, Pickering.

A celebration of Edward’s life will be held at Dunbarton Fairport United Church, 1066 Dunbarton Road, Pickering on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 am followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Dunbarton Fairport United Church (www.dunbartonfairport.on.ca), or a charity of your choice, in Ed’s memory.

Edward will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those he touched. May his soul find eternal peace.
