In memory of

Edmund Jabs

May 6, 1928 -  November 24, 2023

Edmund Jabs, at the age of 95, passed away in hospital after a brief illness on Friday, November 24, 2023.
Edmund lived a long full life which started in a German-speaking village in Poland on the Vistula River called Kempe Zawadowska on May 6, 1928. The happy, simple times of childhood ended abruptly at age 16 when he was drafted into the German Army and saw action for 3 days before WWII ended. The next 5 years were spent in Russian POW work camps under horrific conditions. After his release he joined his parents in Germany, where he met and married Meta Florian, his wife of 67 years, who pre-deceased him in February of this year. He emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1955. After 8 years at Canadian Pacific Railway as a pipefitter he continued his career as a steamfitter at the Goodyear Tire plant where he laboured for about 22 years before retiring when the plant closed. He spent most of his retired years summering at the cottage and wintering in Florida.
Edmund will be remembered as a hard-working builder and provider who was a pillar in his community.
He will be dearly missed by his son Peter and his daughter Susanna.
Friends may call at the Simple Alternative Funeral Centre, 1535 South Gateway Road, Mississauga on Friday December 1, 2023 from 3-5 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow at 5 p.m. Light refreshments to follow. A private interment will take place.

We are deeply saddened by this news. He lived a good life, was an amazing brother to my dad and a kind, considerate uncle. He was a talented story teller with a wonderful laugh. He was so very proud of his kids. We have nothing but good memories of him and he will be missed.

I will always remember Edmund as a kind and thoughtful Person. He was a good Brother-in-Law, and always liked to get together to tell stories from long ago. He was easy to love, and we will miss him. May he now rest in Peace.

t was with great shock and sadness that we learned of your Father's passing. I had visited with him earlier on Friday as he was on the hospital's 2nd floor and my Mother is on the 5th floor. Although he didn't look great, he recognized me and understood that I was going to visit my Mother and let her know that he was in the hospital -- he managed to somewhat jokingly say that he was older than my Mother. I promised I would stop in and say hello to him on my way up to visit my Mother the next day. And then to my great sadness, he was gone.

Jose and I would like to extend our sincere condolences to you and Peter. Your Father was my Godfather, and Jose fondly remembers that he was always kind to him.
