In memory of

Edda Romana Giorgi

February 28, 1939 -  September 16, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Edda Romana Giorgi (née Cecchini) announces her passing on 16 September, 2021, at the age of 82. She passed away at home while under the care of her family after a five-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Edda was born in Sedegliano, Italy, and was one of thirteen children to Domenico and Regina Cecchini. She emigrated to Canada in 1958, following in the footsteps of two of her brothers. Two years later, she married Bruno Giorgi (who pre-deceased her in February of this year) whom she had known from her home town. She worked for the Thermos company for thirty-five years before retiring in 2003. She was known to her family and friends for her hospitality and generosity, always making sure each felt welcome in her home. Edda was also an avid gardener and her table was often graced with fresh vegetables she had grown herself. Her backyard was also filled with many varieties of flowers and plants that she had caringly cultivated.

Edda is survived by her two children, Louis and Diana (Jim); two granddaughters, Katya and Nicola; and, her sister Onorina and brother, Bruno (Suzanne). A funeral mass will be held at Santa Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 717 Kennedy Road, Scarborough, at 10am on Wednesday, 22 September 2021. COVID-19 restrictions will require all attendees to wear masks while indoors. Following the mass, a service of internment will take place at Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough, where all will be welcome to attend. There will then be a reception for family and friends at a private home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edda can be made to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care at Mount Sinai Hospital.
