Dzidra Egle

DZIDRA BRIGITA EGLE – Feb 1, 1933 – April 12, 2021

Beloved wife of late husband Zigurds for 62 years. He passed away a mere seven months before her.
Loving and caring mother of Daina (Uldis) and Erik (Lisa). Adored omam of Erik Jr., Kaylee and Keira.
During her long and full life Dzidra was a genuine and caring soul. She displayed loyalty, sincerity and empathy towards those she touched. She had a kind heart and valued truth, honesty and integrity along with just plain hard work.

Dzidra could speak her mind and did not mince words. She ‘called it as she saw it’ and told it like it was. One knew that she could ‘call a spade a shovel.’ She could be very direct and would fight for and support the underdog.

Dzidra was also a very well rounded person who displayed a keen thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader. She loved spending many hours in her treasured garden. She was a dog lover and cherished many throughout her life. She was instinctively drawn towards all of nature and wildlife as they are all God’s creations. She loved and even fed them all – from birds to raccoons.

Dzidra was also a talented artist who painted often and created stained glass.

She had a striking first soprano voice that was displayed during many solo performances while singing with numerous Latvian choirs. Her voice lives on in many recordings. Not many can say they performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Dzidra was a devoted and loving wife to Ziggy. They shared a lifetime of joyful memories, especially the retirement years at their Lake Simcoe residence from 1990 to 2018. They knew they were fortunate to be able to live together in their own home until age 85.

Dzidra displayed courage in the face of a terrible illness. Her faith and belief in God has given her strength all her life – in good times and in bad.

A private family service will be held with a celebration of life to take place at a later date.
Online condolences can be made at www.etouch.ca

In lieu of flowers, Dzidra has specifically requested donations to your local food bank as people are in need during this difficult time. This is in keeping with her ‘one for all and all for one’ motto.

Dzidra will be truly missed and never forgotten.

A big thank you to Dr. Crystal Luchkiw (Barrie, ON) for all her compassion and caring. Also special thanks to nurses Tatiana, Brittany and Allison (Barrie division of SE Health) for their exemplary care.

Until we are together again.

Love is forever and transcends all boundaries.

My aunt Dzidra had a spark that brought energy and colour to any gathering. She inspired others, by example, to seek knowledge and follow one's dreams. She will be greatly missed by many especially her family and friends.
