In memory of

Dr. Nancy Dunne

July 12, 1955 -  August 4, 2018

It is with profound sadness that we must announce the passing of Dr. Nancy M. Dunne on August 4, 2018. She was born in London, Ontario on July 12, 1955. Her early interests included music (especially the piano at which she excelled and reached the A.Mus level), gardening (as inspired by her mother and maternal grandmother), her academic studies but most especially an enduring love of horses.
She graduated from medicine at the University of Western Ontario and then did a residency in Anaesthesia in Toronto in the early 1980s, where she met several life long friends, especially her close and dear friend Dr.Tina Feierabend. She began practice in anaesthesia in 1986 at the Scarborough Centenary Hospital. In 2005, she moved to the Humber-Finch Hospital, which has now been amalgamated into the Humber River Hospital.
Personally, she pursued several interests with her characteristic intense vigour. Gardening, music and all the arts, fine wine and food, travel, scuba diving, restoring furniture that she had purchased at the many auctions that she attended ( she even taught herself French polishing), working on her house ( she loved fixing things) were all enthusiastically enjoyed.
Her greatest passion however was horseback riding and that she returned to in 2002. Her most notable successes were with her very special partner named Trooper and she competed in Eventing up to the One Star level on several occasions. They also won several annual Ontario eventing awards.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 32 years, C. Richard Fischer, her dear family of sister Cathy Dunne, brother Ken Dunne, nephews Graham Prosser, Simon Prosser, Aaron Prosser, Arthur Dunne, niece Vanessa Dunne and a cherished extended family and many close friends. She was predeceased by her father Donald F. Dunne and mother Melita F. Dunne.
The enormous outpouring of sympathy and condolences from everyone is most appreciated.
In memory of Nancy and in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Ontario Equestrian, the Toronto Botanical Gardens or the Humber River Hospital.
A beautiful and very bright light has left this world, leaving us with an afterglow that will enrich our memories and hearts. God bless her.

I went to high school with Nancy, Cathy, and Ken. I sat across from Nancy in German class, and can see her and hear her answers to this day. She was always spirited, determined, and ready to pursue her goals. She said that she loved eventing because of the communication and learning between rider and horse. I think she loved all animals. She died doing what she loved. Her sudden death is a terrible shock to all of us who knew her, and a terrible blow to her loving husband Rick, to Cathy and Ken, and to her nephews. My heart goes out to you all.

Nancy was such a generous and energetic person, a horse-riding and gardening enthusiast extraordinaire, and a lover of good wines. She was extremely full of life and was finally about to enjoy a semi-retirement when she passed away so unexpectedly.
I always enjoyed learning from her and taking with her, and will miss her greatly.
She had generously given me some herbs and plants for my little garden, so a little bit of her will live on elsewhere in Toronto and ever keep her memory alive in my heart.
My most heartfelt condolences to her lovely husband Rick.
