In memory of

Fotene Effie Doukogianis

July 7, 1926 -  January 4, 2019

It’s with sadness that we announce the passing of Fotene (Effie) Doukogianis at the Hellenic Home on Jan 4 2019 at the age of 92. Effie was born on the island of Samos, Greece and was the beloved wife of the late George Doukogianis for over 55 years. She worked very hard to be able to provide her family with opportunities in Canada, particularly in the restaurant business where she served customers with pride for over 30 years. Her no-nonsense attitude and feisty spirit, along with her strong love for family and friends, will be remembered always.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Stella (Jim) and devoted son Anthony (Karen), beloved grandchildren Kathleen (Robert) and Alexander (Courtenay) as well as by her two active and cherished great grandchildren Liam and Callum. Effie will be dearly missed by her brother Nick (Mary) and nieces Parry and Nina as well as her dear friend Carie.

A service will be held in memory of Effie on Friday February 1st, 2019 in the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, Toronto Ontario (375 Mount Pleasant Road, East gate entrance)

Memorial donations may be made to the Hellenic Home for the aged, 2411 Lawrence Ave E Scarborough Ontario M1P 4X1 or to a charity of your choice

The family is forever grateful for the compassionate care Effie received at the Hellenic Home.

So thankful for Gia Gia and the last 35 years I was able to have her for a grandmother! She loved fiercely and was a strong and opinionated spirit until the end. I’m so fortunate that she got to meet and spend time with both Liam and Callum and love them, too. I will be forever thankful that she gave me the best dad in the universe in her son. Miss you Gia!

Effie was a very loving, caring Giagia, and raised her own wonderful children to be exemplary people. She will be deeply missed.

I will be forever grateful for her doting care and her protectiveness and love throughout my childhood: it was her cooking that instilled in my a lifelong love of lentil soup.

I'm also deeply grateful that toward the end of her life, she was surrounded by loving family, and by very compassionate caregivers.
