In memory of

Douglas Sutton

September 22, 1939 -  September 28, 2024

There are three themes which succinctly sum up Doug’s life : Racing and Rallying, Cruising the World and Eating Out.

He was happiest when involved in any of these pastimes, always in the company of his beloved wife of 56 years - 63 if you count their dating time - Grace.

A life long car lover, Doug started out driving go carts with his brother Roy (deceased), and over the years drove in many rallies and races, including the Baja 1000 in 1969. Even though he broke down in the desert, alone, (and was picked up by the famous Mickey Thompson), it was the thrill of a lifetime to have been involved in the prestigious Baja.

He enjoyed success at stock car racing at Cayuga, Mosport, Varney, Hamilton and other tracks, and once described himself as a ‘Professional Mini Stock Driver’. Dirt bike riding was another favourite pastime.

In the early 70s Doug created C.O.R.R.A. the Canadian Off Road Racing Association, at the site of the Hideaway(now Chicopee) Ski Resort in Kitchener Ontario. Thrifty’s, Molson and Dutch Oven were among the sponsors of the track.

Doug loved driving, anywhere. He and Grace drove all over Hawaii and Australia, and drove every major road in North America and Mexico in their RV.

Cruising the world happily filled much of Doug and Grace’s travel time. They cruised all over the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, to Alaska, to Russia and all the way around South America. The Queen Mary 2 was one of their many ‘rides’.

Closer to home, while managing his many investments, Doug loved eating out at his favourite places, such as Peter’s and Two Guys From Italy in Streetsville. It was even better if there was a Trivia Night happening.

To summarize, Doug’s life was full of travel and adventure. Together he and Grace created many, many warm and wonderful memories together.

He will be missed by many friends, and his family:
Nephews; Ronald Sutton (Rea), Robert Sutton (Michelle), Cameron Stickley (Virginia Foster), John Stickley (Rosanna), Chris Stickley (Summer)
Nieces; Lynn Miller (Brian), Heather Stickley (Scott Crawford), Tannis Stickley
Brothers-in-law; Fred Stickley (Cathy) and Wayne Stickley (Ann)

Celebration of Doug’s life was held on Saturday, Oct.5, 2024 at Two Guys From Italy, 128 Queen St. S, Mississauga (Streetsville) ON
