In memory of

Doug Cretney

December 9, 1944 -  February 7, 2024

It is with great sadness the family of Douglas Wayne Cretney; a devoted husband, cherished father, proud grandfather, and accomplished professional, announce his passing on February 7, 2024, at Lakeridge Oshawa Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born, December 9th, 1944 in Toronto, Ontario to Katherine (Kay) nee Crosby and Robert Cretney he leaves behind his sister Nancy Sherwood (Ron).

Doug will be loving remembered by his beloved wife of 42 years, Pauline; his children and stepchildren: Scott (Trish), Shane (Megan), Wendy (Simon), Jason (Elizabeth), and his grandchildren: Luke, Alexandra, Samantha, Dylan, Rachel, Carter, Michael, Brandon, Brett, and Jacob, as well as his furbaby Puddy and his extended family members.

Professionally, Doug served as the Vice President of Operations for BPX before transitioning into a senior managerial role at TTC post-acquisition, retiring after 30 years.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Doug enjoyed life's simple pleasures. Whether, attending auctions, or enjoying evenings at the local pub, he found joy in the everyday. His legendary Christmas toy drive was a testament to his generosity.

An avid nature enthusiast, Doug nurtured and cared for wildlife, especially his beloved backyard birds, ensuring they were well-fed throughout the winter months. His connection to the natural world was profound, reflecting his gentle and compassionate nature.

While he may be gone, Doug will forever reside in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

I have known Doug for over four years. He was the very first person to welcome me to Oshawa. I was amazed because he did not look at my skin or made me feel inferior. He offered his assistance when I needed it. He has been wonderful to I and my family. He always brings candies to my kids even though we didn’t like Halloween or when I tell him the kids have cavities. He had an infectious smile that brings peace and made you feel relaxed. He had a sense of humour that always makes me curious, inquisitive and wants to know more. He was a genus and a great man. He will be missed. Thank you Doug for making me at home in Oshawa. You are loved. Rest in power till we meet again in heaven.
