In memory of

Dorte Elisabeth Wild

March 29, 1939 -  January 7, 2024

WILD, Dorte (Dorothy)

Peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family, Dorte passed away on January 7, 2024 at the age of 84 years. She will be dearly remembered by her sons Andreas and Derek and their families, as well as by relatives in Germany.

Dorte grew up in Germany and studied to be a seamstress before finding a new home in Canada in 1961. Together with her late husband, Anton, she built a house and raised her sons in Caledon. After a career teaching fashion at Sheridan College in Oakville, she continued to remain active on their property and enjoyed visiting family in Germany.

She will also be fondly remembered by her friends, neighbours and the church community at St. Cornelius. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Meadowvale Funeral Centre, 7732 Mavis Road, Brampton, ON L6Y 5L5 (905-451-3716). A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. with service and burial to follow.

Donations in Dorte’s memory can be made either to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Deutsche Krebshilfe (follow the link below to "Make a Donation").

Andreas and Derek,

I am so sorry that this time has come upon you. When my mother passed, someone sent me this passage. It gave me some solance, so I pass it on to you.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.

And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

And that is dying...
