In memory of

Dorothy Carolyn Barrett (nee Massey)

December 14, 1926 -  December 23, 2016

Carol passed away peacefully at home in her 91st year, on Dec 23rd, 2016. She is reunited with her beloved husband,
Charlie Barrett, who passed away in 2013. Carol leaves her loving sons Rick, Scott, and David Somerville from her late husband George. She will also be missed by her granddaughter, Julia Somerville.

Carol was born in Toronto to Dorothy and Arnold B. Massey. She is survived by her cherished brother Arnold D. Massey (Carole), his children Arnold Jr, Heather Dawson (Brian), Seana Massey (Ian Moorhead), and great nieces and nephews, Phoebe, Jack, Catherine, Tessa, and Nathan.

Carol had a wonderful relationship with her extended Barrett family. She leaves behind three step children, Brooke Gibson (Bob), Robin Rhodes, Charles Barrett (Anna); her dear grandchildren Sarah Gibson, Bethany Gibson Benoy (Glenn), Peter Gibson (Nikoo), Ben Rhodes (Thanya), Emma Rhodes, Borden Rhodes, Nadia Collins (Jesse), Timothy Barrett, and Alexandra Barrett. Carol was proud to have 14 great-grandchildren.

Carol graduated from Branksome Hall, then studied dress design for two years. She was an active volunteer, serving on many committees and boards, including the CNIB, Toronto General Hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children, IODE, Junior League of Toronto, and Belmont House.

Carol and Charlie were married almost 39 years and lived a charmed life. They spent winters at their villa in Mijas, Spain, and summers at their cottage at Pointe au Baril on Georgian Bay. Carol's favourite hobby was art, and she created many beautiful watercolour paintings of the surrounding areas.

The family would like to thank Erdine Macalipay for her valued assistance. A memorial service will take place at St. Simon's the Apostle Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Belmont House, Toronto.
