Donato Fiorella

August 22, 1951 -  May 15, 2020

Donato (Dan) Fiorella, 68, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully from cancer at his residence on Friday May15th 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born August 22nd 1951– the son of Giuseppe and Carmela Fiorella in Montorio nei Frentani, Campobasso, Italy. Loving husband of Teresa. Cherished father of Daniel and David. Dan will be dearly missed by his two brothers Nicola (Nick) and Costanzo (Chris), the Fiorella and Labriola families, friends and colleagues. Dan came to Canada at the age of 6. He worked very hard to become an educator and taught at St. John Henry Newman Catholic High School (formerly Cardinal Newman) for 32 years. He inspired many teachers and students with his personality, charisma, humour, teaching style and love of sport. While at Newman, Dan was the physical education department head. He coached many sports such as basketball, wrestling and badminton. As the athletic director, Dan managed the athletic banquet, where each year students were recognized for their excellence in both sport and academics. He will be fondly remembered as a volunteer contributing to athletic programs for youth in his community. His legacy as an educator will live on through his family and students. Due to COVID-19, there will not be a scheduled mass or visitation. The interment will take place at THORNTON CEMETARY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, (South of Taunton Road and off of Dryden Blvd, 905-579-6787). In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted for Green Thumbs Growing Kids (https://greenthumbsto.org/).

May He support us all the day long, till the shades lengthen, and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done! Then in His mercy may He give us safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last!

Dearest Teresa, Daniel and David,

Please accept our heartfelt condolences for your profound loss. What wouldn't we give to dry all your tears, ease your sorrow, and give you comfort in your time of grief? May your pain soon be "gentled" by your fond memories of your loved one. We shall always recall the echo of his laughter. Dan was an adoring husband and doting father. He was always true to himself. Your great love, dedication, honour and respect for him allowed Dan to live according to his values and ideals. As you celebrate his life, his spirit will continue to shine forth through your remembrance of him. May God grant him eternal rest.

Love always, Tony, Jo, and family
