In memory of

Domenic (Micuzzu) Totera

July 26, 1939 -  May 27, 2021

It is with heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of our father, Domenic (Micuzzu) Totera on May 27, 2021, just shy of his 82nd birthday. He leaves behind his loving family: wife, Lucia of 58 years, his children and sons-in-law: Grace Mercieca (Michael), Joe Totera, and Rose Mercieca (Tony); grandchildren Christina (Matt), Domenic, Samantha, Daniel, Luke, and Jake, great grandchildren Kaylee, Aubree, and Serenity, sisters Nella and Assunta and many extended family and friends.

Our father was born on July 26, 1939 in Cerisano, Cosenza in the Province of Calabria in Italy to parents Giuseppe and Maria Totera and was one of 10 children. In 1963, he, his wife, and their new baby Grace immigrated to Canada, where together they navigated the realities of being new immigrants. They lived a humble life of hard work and dedication to their family, always putting the needs of the family ahead of their own.

Our father was definitely an opinionated and stubborn man who we affectionately called “Grumpy Nonno”. He was also a comedian who could always be counted on for a good laugh with his classic one liners. But above all, our father was a loving husband, a great father, father-in-law, and Nonno…a selfless man with a heart of gold, who taught us so many valuable life lessons and the deep meaning of respect, dignity, and family. He was and will always be our role model, our hero.

Dad, we thank you for being you and for loving us unconditionally. Although you have left this earth and moved on to what is hopefully a wonderful place where you can reconnect with your parents, your brothers and your sisters who have made this journey before you, please send us a sign from time to time and just know you will be forever in our hearts .

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, a private service will be held. For those wishing to attend the mass virtually on June 1, 2021, please go to the Church's homepage:
