In memory of

Diane Elizabeth Boyd

May 13, 1948 -  October 31, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Diane Elizabeth Boyd (nee Hughes). She was the devoted and cherished mom of Karen Comrie (Robert) and James (“Jim”) Boyd. Diane was the proud grandma of Gavin, James, Melissa and Alana; and great-grandma of Lucas and Mason. She will be missed and remembered with love by brothers Russell (Susan) and Trevor (Cheryl); her nieces, nephews, cousins and all extended family. Diane was predeceased by her beloved partner, Doug Fisher, her parents James McNeil Hughes and Crystabel Muriel Hughes (nee Wiber).

Diane had a long and distinguished career with the City of Toronto in the Shelter, Support and Housing Department. Her presence and comradery will be missed by the many colleagues and friends that she worked with over the years. Her rivals and friends at the Cosburn Lawn Bowling and Kennedy Bowl will fondly remember her sportsmanship and light-hearted nature.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday November 7, 2023 at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre, 1057 Brock Road, Pickering, with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Reception to follow at the funeral home, then burial at Mount Hope Cemetery, 305 Erskine Ave, Toronto.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Rahim Abdulhussein and the staff at the Palliative Care Department at the Scarborough Health Centre.

In memory of Diane and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jays Care Foundation, Sunnybrook Health Science Odette Cancer Centre or a charity of your choice.

Dear Karen, Jim, Russ, Trev and families,
I am sorry to hear of Diane's passing. To have known her all my life has been a blessing. Poor Diane had to put up with all the shenanigans of two younger brothers and four little Rafferty cousins on our frequent visits to Don Mills! I fondly remember sitting by her side as she tried endlessly to win Beatles tickets in 1963 and I was amazed as a nine year old at her patience. Most of all, Diane was devoted to her family. Her constant visits to her parents in their later years, her appearances at family get-togethers and of course as my room mate in Bolton when we attended Charlie and Shannon's wedding proved her love for us all. I quote - At the end of life, what really matters is not what we bought but what we built; not what we got but what we shared; not our competence, but our character; not our success but our significanace. Diane lived a life that mattered. I will miss you.
