In memory of

Diana Ellen Dora MacDonald

September 12, 1925 -  July 6, 2022

Diana Ellen Dora Groves-MacDonald passed away Wednesday July 6th, 2022 at Castleview Wychwood Towers, just two months shy of her 97th birthday. Diana was born in Thorley on the beautiful Isle of Wight and had seven siblings, and a treasure of a mom, but unfortunately lost her dad on Christmas morning when she was five. Diana served in WWII for the RAF as a teletype operator, a job she loved and was very proud of. She came to Canada with her firstborn son Leigh (predeceased) in May 1946 and soon after met Albert MacDonald (predeceased). Together they had four more children, Lynn (predeceased), Patricia, Gregory and Karen. Diana dearly loved her nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She worked for Canada Post for thirty-three years, but her greatest accomplishment was to be the kindest, sweetest Mum, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was very classy and sophisticated, which could be attributed in part to having received hand-me-downs from Joan and Jackie Collins as a teenager.

Diana taught us how to love. She was the sunshine in our lives and our biggest supporter. Over her lifetime, she continued to evolve and grow which inspires us to do the same. She had many friends and her home was always bustling with activity because of it. As we move through our lives, she will be there around every corner encouraging and guiding us. We will feel her in our hearts and see her in every garden.

Despite a life full of joy but also much sadness, Diana was always loving and accepting of others and celebrated diversity. After showing tremendous strength enduring Alzheimer's disease, she can rest in peace in the loving arms of those who went before her. She is likely enjoying endless games of Scrabble with them now.

We wish to gratefully acknowledge the staff of CWT, specifically Irina, Simie, Pamela, Nancy, Maria, Barbara and Catherine for their care and support over the last three years. Even in Diana’s final moments, she expressed her thanks as Catherine massaged her neck and brushed her hair.

Floral donations will be accepted as well as donations to the Alzheimer's Society.

There is nothing else to be said after reading your wonderful tribute dear Karen….
Mum was a wonderful loving person to all her knew her, especially me and our family. She was the dearest friend to my mother Margaret, such a special relationship unlike many best friends. I will always miss her as I was blessed to to have her a a ‘second Mum’ for these many years since my dear Mum has been gone. May she Rest In Peace and meet again with her dear Albert. Thoughts and prayers to you at this sad time. Love Velma ❤️ Kelly and Paul

Karen, coping with the loss of someone as dear as your mom and the love she had for you will be one of life’s biggest challenges. I hope over time the feeling of emptiness is filled with joy and every waking day brings unforgettable memories of Diana and a smile to your face. A beautiful obituary, I teared while reading it. I draw comfort in imaging your mom's beautiful soul enjoying a game of Scrabble with my mom in heaven above. ~ Toni
