In memory of

Desmond Erle Wynne Shaw

May 7, 1935 -  October 15, 2022

Desmond passed away peacefully on October 15, 2022, at Brampton Civic Hospital.
Beloved husband of Mavis; father of Corinne (Ted), Carolyn & Colleen, grandfather of Katrina, Kimberley & Kayleigh, brother of Mauveen.

He was a man of great principles, righteous, honest, kind, faithful & selfless. A man of God with a gentle soul and a heart of gold.

Desmond had been a great sportsman and excelled in athletics, boxing & rugby when in school at La Martiniere College in Lucknow, India, where he was a resident student and College Captain. He became a teacher at La Martiniere for Boys in Calcutta, where he met the love of his life, Mavis. They shared a special love story and just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 2nd.
Desmond went on to become Vice Principal at the school in Calcutta, before moving to La Martiniere College, Lucknow, as Principal. This was his alma mater and he felt he was ‘back home’.
After 12 ½ years, Desmond moved to Bombay, where he was Principal of The Cathedral & John Connon School for 10 years.
He loved his work and touched the lives of many, leaving his mark on all who met him, even once he retired in Bombay.

There was nothing Desmond enjoyed more than being with his family, and his dream came true to spend the rest of his retired life with his children and grandchildren, when he and his wife, Mavis, moved to Canada. He lived life to the fullest and was happiest sitting in the backyard with Cydney (our ever-loving Labradoodle), listening to his favourite songs, going for long picturesque drives or singing along to old tunes with friends!

He will be missed forever by all his family and many friends, but has joined his parents, George & Noreen, his sisters, Hazel & Lynette, & many good friends who have gone before him.

A funeral service to celebrate Desmond’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at St. George’s Anglican Church, 60 Guelph St., Georgetown, ON L7G 3Z5.

Nothing on earth could ever replace
The sound of his voice….
The smile on his face
Memories don’t die
They only grow old
Of the one we loved
But we could not hold

'Uncle Des ' has for me- over half a century, been a smiling, cheerful ,hardworking, humourous support & close friend of so many, including my mother & Late father Premjit Lall.

With a loving family who havesupported him throughout & close frieds, ex student- fans , ex-colleagues, family worldwide, I'm sure all wish to join me in sending Gratitude to a Hero!

As NichirenDaishonin stated " living a meaningful life dedicated to the happiness of ourselves and others, we pass away without fear, feeling profound joy.". It's not doubt tricky but Uncle Des too, WOULD DEFINITELY want us smiling...like his pillars of family members showed me day before! Let's try! NMRK
