Derek passed away surrounded by love with family and friends at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the loving husband of 35 years to Inge, and a devoted father to Josh (Olga), Monique (Ryan), and Natalie. His children were his greatest loves and proudest accomplishments.
Derek is survived by his dear mother, Marilyn; his sister, Sharon (Randy); and his extended Riendeau, Reuben, and Muzzi families. He was predeceased by his father, Tony.
Born in Toronto, Derek grew up in the city’s east end and attended Malvern Collegiate. He went on to graduate with high distinction from the University of Waterloo, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (Computer Science).
Derek spent over 25 years at CAPSCO/Solcorp, a software consulting firm, where he built lasting friendships with colleagues he deeply valued. His entire career took him across five continents and included extended periods living in Paris, France and Epping, England.
Derek had many passions including travel, fitness, music, movies, the Toronto Maple Leafs, good food, and his beloved dog, Billie. Above all else, he cherished his family.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation or Colorectal Cancer Canada. Alternatively, friends are invited to raise a toast in his honour.
Family and friends are invited to attend Derek’s Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough. A reception will follow from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
