In memory of
Denys Austen Ramsahoye
January 7, 1957 -
June 22, 2023
Denys Austen Ramsahoye was born in London, England to Chandra Rita Ramsahoye née Misir (deceased 2020) and Samuel Irad Ramsahoye (deceased 2020). He was the first grandchild in both the Misir and Ramsahoye families.
Denys lived in Georgetown, Guyana until 1976, then he moved to Quebec, Canada, where he remained until 1984. He spent the rest of his days in Toronto, Ontario. Having lived in several countries over his lifetime, Denys attended St. Gabriel’s School and St. John’s College in Georgetown, Dawson College and Concordia University in Montreal, and Ryerson University in Toronto.
Denys was a born writer, scout master, and political analyst for many years. With his observant, analytical nature, he always saw below the surface on many issues. Denys often contributed articles to several newspapers and wrote a poignant, but unpublished novel about his experiences in Toronto called “The Study of the Human Condition in Adverse Circumstances”.
His ability to generate lively discussion on a vast array of subjects was well-known amongst his family and friends. It was also his tendency to persuade them to see his point of view on any number of political, religious, and social issues, much to their bemusement.
Denys saw the reality of life, but always had faith that the world could be a better place.
For these and his many other traits, Denys will be much missed. However, it is of great comfort to his loved ones that he was content with his lifetime achievements and the decisions he made along the way.
As he so succinctly put it at the end, he had no regrets for the life he led and he was at peace.
Denys leaves behind his three sisters: Dawne, Moira and Elizabeth, as well as, countless relatives and friends, especially his closest friends Nicholas Singh, Godfrey Nelson, and Denis Rajroop.
Rest in Peace, Denys.
