In memory of

Delaine Elizabeth PAYTON

February 8, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Delaine Elizabeth Payton (nee Bold) on February 8, 2025 in palliative care at St. Michael’s Hospital. Delaine was the cherished daughter of the late Ernest and Geraldine Bold (nee Redcliffe). She was predeceased by her loving husband of 39 years Thomas William Payton (2015) and by her beloved brother Darryl Lewis Bold (2021). Delaine is survived by her nephew Gary Bold, her niece Angela Bold (Zachary), and will be greatly missed by her extended family and her many, many friends.

Delaine had a rewarding career over many years in the banking industry. She and Tom were very involved in the Scarboro Golf and Country Club where they made many lifelong friends. As a couple, they travelled the world extensively, making treasured memories along the way. In 2012 she and her husband Tom retired to their dream home near Horseshoe Valley where they once again became an integral part of the curling and golf community.

After Tom’s passing, Delaine, who was a talented leader, continued with numerous local activities and committees. She was always happiest playing cards, socializing with friends and volunteering her time with various organizations. One of her proudest achievements was serving as president of the PROBUS Club of Orillia for 3 years. She had a special love for music, animals and tending to her beautiful gardens.

Delaine was a generous friend; always giving of her time, strength and wisdom. You could count on her to arrange a game of golf, organize a meal with friends, or join in a lively game of bridge or bid euchre. She had a fierce but friendly competitive spirit and there was a good chance she would beat you at trivia or cards. Delaine had a wonderful sense of humour and loved a good joke. She will also be remembered for her impeccable fashion sense, no matter what the occasion.

Delaine had a very close friendship with her “Curlettes” who gave her much strength in recent times (Mary, Pam, Lynn, Jane, Anne, and Diane). She would also want to give her deepest appreciation to her friends Mary Thib, Helen Reaume, Diane Robert, Diane Cowden and Tess Flynn who provided her with endless support, care and love throughout her recent protracted hospitalization.

Many thanks to Dr. Mike Odlozinski and the health care teams at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto for their excellent care of Delaine over the past few months.

Private interment at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre, Scarborough. A Celebration of Life for Delaine is planned at Hawk Ridge Golf Club in Orillia on Sunday, May 25th, 2025 from 2-4 p.m.

If you wish to make a donation in Delaine’s memory, please consider an animal-related charity, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Delaine's dynamic personality will be missed by everyone who knew her. She brought her skill and knowledge of both golf and curling to every game. I will miss her beautiful coordinating outfits and matching jewelry she wore on the golf course and on the ice. Rest in peace, my friend.

Words are hard to find to express my disbelief and sorrow at losing such a wonderful person. Always a pleasure to be in her company either as an opponent or as an ally at bridge or on the ice. Delaine always lit up a room with her beautiful attire, her welcoming smile, or with her delicious snacks.
You were taken way too soon Delaine. May you rest in peace. With love and sorrow

I didn’t know Delaine for very long and I’m not a very good bridge player but she was very patient and helpful. We had a lot of fun and good times I miss her
