In memory of

David George Donaldson

September 4, 1946 -  September 11, 2022

We are heartbroken to announce that on Sunday, September 11, at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry, David passed away peacefully following a 13-year couragous battle with cancer. He will be remembered by his devoted wife and life partner of 37 years Elaine, son Kevin (Ashley), cousin Bill (Terry) as well as extended family, friends and neighbours.

David was predeceased by his parents George and Winifred Donaldson, in-laws Louis and Mary Gensorek, grandparents William and Catherine Clemo, as well as his Uncle Russ and Aunt Ruth Clemo.

David was born and raised in The Beaches (Toronto) and had fond memories of summers spent on Lake Couchiching (Orillia) with family and friends. In later years, David and Elaine enjoyed their own lakeside retreat on Lower Buckhorn (Kawarthas) spending time boating, fishing, and entertaining. Growing up, David excelled in various sports and remained an ardent sports fan. He was an avid traveller, enjoyed photography, collected memorabilia (mostly from his travels) and loved his cars, especially his 1981 Corvette. David’s varied career included time spent with the Irish Regiment of Canada, as a Certified Auditor (operational and forensic), Regional General Manager for Durham & Kawarthas Region at Consumers Gas (Enbridge), Business Consultant, and Realtor. Music was always an integral part of David’s life. He was an exceptionally talented pianist who enjoyed entertaining and who brought joy to many over the years. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, good nature, and quick wit. In his last year of life, David was excited to become a “Papa” for the first time with the arrival of his granddaughter, Evelyn, whom he adored.

We are grateful to our family and friends who provided love and support during David’s most difficult time. Your visits, messages, texts, calls, cards, thoughts and prayers were and have been greatly appreciated.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Remembrance will take place at a later date. If anyone wishes to honour David’s memory, a donation in his name to either Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry, Prostate Cancer of Canada, Sunnybrook Hospital, or to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
So loved, so missed, so very dear.

Excellent fishing partner, enjoyed all the years we spent on Lake Couchiching and at Deer Bay. We loved traveling with he and Elaine. David would organize day trips and sightseeing events, it was like traveling with a travel agent always on the go! We loved listening to him playing his piano, he was truly gifted!
Very difficult to say goodbye to our dear friend!

David was a kind and considerate person; a long time friend, and a wonderful partner to my dearest friend Elaine.

We shared lots of times with David and Elaine, remembering many special dinner celebrations during the Christmas season, along with other special friends... sharing lots of good times and joyful moments.

David loved to play the piano and shared "many a tune" when visiting with Elaine and David at their home, during other dinner celebrations.
I know David will play many heart-warming melodies from the heaven's above.

Elaine, what a wonderful heartfelt tribute to David, and his very fulfilling life.

David... you will be missed by many... Rest in Peace.

Love.... Sharon
