In memory of

David Branch

November 27, 1948 -  January 4, 2026

David Branch, a man whose presence inspired those around him and whose integrity and dedication to excellence touched every life he encountered, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4th, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by his cherished family.

Born David Elliott Branch on Saturday November 27th, 1948, in Bathurst, New Brunswick. He left a lasting impression on all who knew him. David was predeceased by his dear parents, Allie and Margaret Branch, and his beloved sister, Caryl. He will be deeply missed by his sons, Barclay (Jackie), Kyle (Lisa), and Wade (Myanna); his partner in life, Patsy; and his stepchildren, Brenna (Curtis) and Brent (Kendra). He was a proud Grampa to Reilly, Bowie, Jack and a precious Papa to Josie, who all brought him immense joy and pride. He will be fondly remembered by Charlene Branch, Cameron Gaudette, his extended family and many friends. David leaves behind his loyal and faithful German Shepherd, Laker.

David dedicated his professional life to hockey, serving 45 years as the Commissioner of the Ontario Hockey League and past President of the Canadian Hockey League. His leadership was defined not only by vision and professionalism, but also by genuine care for the young people whose lives were shaped through the sport. He was widely respected for his integrity, steady guidance, and lifelong commitment to excellence. Above all, David treasured family, loyalty, and quiet moments shared with those closest to him. He loved heading up north to spend time at the cottage and cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays at the ballpark. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, fairness and devotion that will be remembered with gratitude and affection.

In keeping with David’s wishes, a private family service will be held.

A public ceremony to celebrate and honour David’s life will take place on Saturday, January 24th, 2026 at 1 p.m., at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. All are welcome.

David's advice and personal guidance were particularly valuable to me when I joined Hockey Canada. His confidence and thoughtfulness are something I will always remember...and what an utter leader and gentleman he was when I had the pleasure of meeting with him. A leader and a good overall person. May his memory be eternal.
