In memory of

Daisy Evonne Sammy

September 23, 1926 -  July 25, 2023

Daisy Evonne Sammy, 96, of Toronto, passed peacefully on July 25, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born to the late Alfred Powell and Jane Grace on September 23, 1926 in Port Antonio, Jamaica. Daisy graduated from Titchfield. From there she apprenticed as a dressmaker and became a Class 1 Dressmaker, in the Portland Region.
She worked as a seamstress the majority of her life, a vocation that would shape the lives of all her family. She immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1981 with her sons Marcell and Dale Sammy, and her grandson, Miguel McKenzie.

Daisy is survived by her sister Dorothy Louise Powell, four children: Derrick Blake, Grace Blake, Paulette McKenzie, and Dale Sammy. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Daisy loved nature, gardening, rigorous walks, dancing, singing, cooking, and had a special affinity for word searches. Her greatest joy, however, was being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daisy was a woman of strong faith. She was a Deaconess and a member of the church choir. As comfort while her health declined, she often recited Psalm 23, β€œThe Lord is my shepherd.”

Visitation and funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at the Toronto East Seventh-day Adventist Church at 10 a.m. The burial will take place at 1p.m. at Duffin Meadows Cemetery in Pickering. Please see details from the website.

I will truly miss my Aunt D she was a remarkable and knowledgeable woman. She inspired me in so many ways. She was a woman always on the go she enjoyed her early morning walks as I would be on my way to work who would I always run into my Aunt D of course with her long time walking partner. She was always an earful away whenever I felt the need to chat. I will truly miss her sense of humour and her old time stories.
Rest in Peace beautiful lady I will always have you in my heart and knowing you and my mom Ivymay Moodie are together in the Heavens two strong incredible women who will be our Angels both in the sky.
