In memory of

Arthur Dawson Cuthbert

June 3, 1936 -  July 11, 2021

Arthur Dawson Cuthbert passed away peacefully on July 11, 2021 due to Parkinson’s disease. Art was born June 3, 1936 to Jean Cuthbert (nee Kidd) and Arthur Cuthbert of Peterborough, Ontario.
A broadcast journalist, Art worked at CHEX, CHUM, CBC, CKEY and CJRT. His passion for literature, theatre and classical music led to a career as a performing arts reviewer, working in radio and print media. His brilliant and inquisitive mind, keen appreciation of the arts and fondness for conversation shone through his work as an interviewer and writer. Art balanced his intellectual pursuits with a lifelong love of nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, cycling and travel, and was happiest when out in the country. His long-term partner Adriane Markow shared his love of nature, art, music and cuisine. Family gatherings at Art and Adriane’s home were filled with great music, delicious food, laughter and engaging conversation.
Art is survived by Adriane, three of his four children and five grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his daughter Pamela Ann. He was a beloved dad and granddad, and he will be dearly missed by all whose days and years were enriched by his insight, friendship, humour and kindness. Art did not want a funeral service. Family and friends will gather in September to inter his ashes. Donations may be made to Parkinson Canada or Matthews House Hospice in Alliston.

Art had the greatest, mellow voice and a wonderful sense of humour. He will be missed by many people who met him and who he included in his life. I am honoured to have known him.

I know the Cuthberts through Pam,
Art's youngest daughter - now deceased.
Pam and I dated in High School.
And shared all of the adventures associated with that time in life.

Art was exceptionally knowledgeable and learned,
and had keen insight into many facits of life.

He was a contemporary of my father in the world of Journalism,
and represents a time in journalism that placed integrity above all.
He leaves a grand legacy in his passing,
and will be deeply missed by all.

RIP

Arthur will be dearly missed. He was a great guy! Such a interesting conversationalist, with his wealth of knowledge. He loved to have fun, with good food, and loved ones. He was the best Granddad! I have many fond memories of time spent with him. He is deeply loved and is forever in our hearts.
