In memory of

Maureen Gertrude Crutchfield

July 18, 1929 -  October 30, 2020

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Maureen Gertrude Crutchfield on October 30, 2020 at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga. She will be dearly missed by her three sons, Larry, Ken and Coogan (Maria), grandchildren Aaron, Amber, Sonja, Hailey, Zander and Zoe, and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Haden, Harvey, Aurora, Gabriella and Christian, as well as extended family and friends.

Maureen was born on July 18, 1929 in Toronto, Ontario. Raised in a Catholic Irish/Italian family by her parents Thomas and Gertrude Healy, she was the oldest of three children. She is predeceased by her brothers Clifford and Michael. Maureen had to grow up quickly during hard times, living through the great depression and World War 2.

Later in life she found her calling; she worked for the Children’s Aid Society as a foster parent for over 25 years, providing a stable home to countless children. She was finally doing what she enjoyed most, taking care of children, many of whom remained living with her until adulthood. She was known for being loving, generous and having an open door to all children in need. In her retirement she was a doting grandmother, showering her grandchildren with attention and love.

Maureen enjoyed good food and traveling to some of her favourite destinations including Hawaii, England, Ireland, France, Las Vegas, Florida, Cuba and Dominican Republic. She lived a very full and active life and was fortunate enough to find love and marry three times, the last being to Joseph Harry Crutchfield. She will be reunited with Joseph at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Thornhill in a private family burial.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Sick Kids Hospital in Maureen’s memory.

Maureen really enjoyed her life! She loved her visits to the Woodbine Casino and made friends with some of the regulars.
When she was married to Joe, both of them were like teenagers. I’m so happy she found such a wonderful man to share some of her life with. She saved the best for last!
My condolences to Coogan and Maria, Kenny, Larry, grandkids and great grandkids.
May you find peace in the good memories.
Love
Wendy

Maureen ( a.k.a Gaga) you were a wonderful grandmother to Zander. You called him the apple of your eye. When he couldn’t say grandma you were appointed “Gaga”!! I remember you said “Oh, Sabrina I love it!” He will call me Gaga!! I think because you liked Lady Gaga too. :) I think the name stuck. You were thoughtful kind and loving to me! You would give the shirt off your back if you know it made my life easier. I loved when you would visit us in Oakville!! Our dinners at Swiss Chalet. I will miss all your stories about life and raising boys ! You were generous, adventurous, loved fashion and most of all a wonderful mother. Love you Maureen!! You will be missed ! God now has you in his keeping. I will have you in my heart.
