It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Peter in Toronto. Son of the late John and Marion Coates and brother of Nicola (Steve Martin). Dear friend and partner of Nancy Williams. Peter was an avid sailor with membership in The Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club, crewing on “Double Time” with his friends Sam Robbins and John DiCostanza. Peter worked for many years as a Graphic Designer and illustrator in the advertising field. He was a great lover of the arts. He had advanced knowledge in the liquid arts. Peter was good company on Double Time, where he regaled us with tales, and ales, from his career in beer marketing and brewing. Many happy hours were also spent on the Toronto Island.
Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Peter’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice or CAMH.

Gone too soon, Peter was a great friend. Always polite and friendly, making time to listen to your problems however trivial, without seeming to have any of his own. Enjoying an adventurous life well-lived. I'll remember him and miss him for his story telling ability, hearty laughs and many gifts both physical and personal. And I'm forever grateful to learn from him that life is for living in the moment and not to settle for getting bored. We'll see you in the ripple and the waves, my friend!

My heart goes out to his long time wife and mate Nancy, and to both Peter's and Nancy's families and Peter's friends and associates. I loved his accent, wit, laugh and gentleness and always a gentleman. I have many fond memories and still can't believe he is not here with us still. Rest in Peace Peter.
