In memory of

楊中堂 Chung Tong Young

June 15, 1941 -  January 27, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chung Tong Young on January 27, 2022 at the age of 80. He will be greatly missed by his wife Fong Chang, his sons Kevin (Lelin) and Keith (Loan), and his granddaughters Ashley, Emily, Melanie, Katherine and Jocelyn.

In his early years, he excelled in school and became a scholar. His interest in foreign languages led him to study German. He became a professor at the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies teaching German languages. During the Cultural Revolution, he worked as a librarian at the University.

In 1977, the desire to be closer to his family and make a better future for his children led him to migrate to Toronto, Canada with help from his brothers Anthony and George. Although the language barrier made it difficult in the beginning, he managed to learn English very quickly. He supported his family through hard work and going to community college where he studied Printing Trades. From there, he worked as an apprentice in a printing workshop until his retirement.

He was very active in life. He enjoyed swimming, table tennis, and basketball. He was an avid NBA fan, never missing a game on television. He also had a passion for gardening. Every year he enjoyed sharing the produce cultivated from his backyard with friends and neighbors. He was a fun and loving person who enjoyed many outings and playing with his grandchildren. We appreciate all the things he has done to support us through our lives. He will be greatly missed.

We would like to give our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Langstaff Square Care Community for the care and compassion they provided during his stay.

A Visitation in Chung Tong's memory will be held on Tuesday February 8th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at York Funeral Centre. Interment to follow at York Cemetery (Section 33).

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his memory.
