December 16, 1937 -
December 7, 2022
Mr. Chuen Fung passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022 at the age of eighty-four in Scarborough, Ontario. His battle with cancer in recent months was a shining example of facing life challenges with grace and dignity. Despite his declining health, Chuen remained strong for himself and his family until the end.
Chuen was born on December 16, 1937 in Shunde (also known as Shuntak) District, City of Foshan, Province of Guangdong, China. He grew up in a large family with eight siblings. As a child, he spent his time working in various family businesses. When he got older, he became the manager of a manufacturing plant in his hometown.
He left his hometown for Hong Kong in 1962 and worked in the construction industry during the boom of the late 1960s. His time in Hong Kong sparked his passion for both residential and commercial construction, and reflected his zest for life.
In 1958, Chuen met the love of his life, Miu Fong Leung in Guangzhou, China. It was love at first sight, and they were married in Hong Kong in 1965. Together, they had one child: David. In 1973, Chuen and his family left Hong Kong and arrived in Montreal, Quebec to start a new chapter of their lives. This was the beginning of an enduring love affair with Canada. As he embraced a new life in Canada, Chuen worked extremely hard, first in the restaurant industry in Montreal and later in manufacturing in Toronto. Since receiving his Canadian citizenship and for almost five decades, Chuen beamed with enormous pride on Canada Day and was always thankful for everything this country had given him.
In addition to his wife and son, Chuen is survived by his beloved daughter-in-law, Iris, and granddaughter Renee.
