In memory of

Chrysant L. Sadowsky

February 26, 1936 -  May 20, 2024

With his daughters by his bedside, Chrysant "Chris" Sadowsky, 88, of Brampton, Ontario, died peacefully after a brief illness on May 20, 2024.

Chris was born in Lopuszany, Ukraine in 1936. Having lost both parents during WWII, he and cousin Danya "Donna" were raised by Danya's parents, Daria and Ivan Kuleba. They emigrated to France after the War, and moved to Canada when Chris was 13 years old.

As a youth, Chris enjoyed playing sports, particularly soccer. He spent many happy days practicing with his best friend, Myron Bereza. Chris was also a good ice hockey player in those days.

As a young man, Chris developed a keen interest in languages. He had to adapt and learn French in France, then English in Canada, and would go on to learn several other languages over the course of his lifetime.

After high school, Chris attended the University of Toronto and the University of Ottawa. Although he considered studying law, his aptitude for language led him to a career in education. It was in his capacity as a teacher that he met his wife, Vida (nee Rickevicius). Chris, it would turn out, was teaching Vida's younger brother. They were married and lived in Cloyne, ON as newlyweds.

Chris and Vida "Vicki" would go on to raise five children in Brampton's "D Section", and he would commute every day to Toronto to teach at Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. When he wasn't marking assignments or tests, Chris enjoyed playing tennis on weekends, going for long walks or practicing melodies on the piano. He spent over 30 years happily teaching Secondary School French at FHCI. He also coached their tennis teams. Students and colleagues would remember him as being strict, but with a real desire to make learning French fun and relatable.
Chris finally retired at age 65 and spent the rest of his days listening to classical music, attending Sunday church services, watching Wimbledon, making new friends at the mall and performing random acts of kindness.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Bohdan and Helen (nee Pryhoda), his wife Vida (2000) and son Robert (2002). He is survived by his children Christine (David Starratt), Lisa, Paul (Mellissa Severeyns) and Christopher (Quennie Gonzalez). He was a proud Grandpa to Sarah (Darren Kowlessar), Stefanie (Bronson Watola), Diana, Victoria, Abagail and Isabel. Chris was ecstatic to be promoted to "GGP" (Great Grand Pappy) in 2020 with the birth of Kasian Kowlessar and again in 2022 when Kaiya Kowlessar arrived.

Special thanks to his best friend and former colleague, Gail MacBride, for always staying in touch with calls and greeting cards over the years. Thanks also to his dear friend, Sauro, for all of their practice Italian conversations. It meant a great deal to Chris.

Cremation has taken place.

If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association of Canada or The Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
