In memory of
Christine Marie Reay
January 23, 1953 -
September 4, 2022
It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Christine Reay (née Szydlowski), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Christine passed away in the early hours on September 4th, 2022, at the age of 69.
Christine was an incredibly devoted wife to her loving husband Harold. In 1968, fate brought Harold and Christine together as teenagers, when Harold moved across the street from Christine. Their admiration for one another would quickly blossom into what would later become a loving and steadfast marriage of forty-nine years. As a young married couple, Christine and Harold worked hard and sacrificed in order to forge their relationship ahead and accomplish their goals of buying a house that they would one day raise their family in.
Christine was the absolute best mother to her two daughters, Andrea (Attila) and Julia (Sam). Christine had an unbreakable bond with her girls and was a constant source of support and guidance to them their entire lives. She was more than happy to be the central figure in her children's lives and that's all that ever mattered to her. Andrea and Julia will treasure the memories they have with her in their hearts forever. Christine loved her son-in-laws Attila and Sam like her own children and warmly welcomed them into the family with open arms.
Christine fully embraced the role of grandmother ("Grams") and wore the title with pride! She was a doting grandmother to her five adoring grandchildren - Mya, Daryus, Khloe, Jaxyn, and Ronyn. Christine played a pivotal role in caring fulltime for each grandchild until they began school. She cared so very deeply about their wellbeing and continued to be very involved in every aspect of their lives.
Christine was predeceased by her dear parents Zdzislaw and Danuta Szydlowski, who immigrated to Canada from Poland. Christine was the middle child of five and will be greatly missed by her siblings, Chris (Susan), Yolanda (Wayne), Peter (Lynn), and Lucy.
Christine's sole purpose in life was to nurture and care for her family. She was a loyal and loving friend to many. Friends, neighbours and family were constant recipients of her generosity, hospitality, and kindness. Christine was the definition of a selfless human being who continuously put others ahead of herself. Seeing others happy made her happy. Christine was a wealth of knowledge on many topics, and loved sharing her insights with others. She was a social person who enjoyed long chats with others and could initiate and engage in conversations with ease. She would do anything for those around her and never failed to be present for both the everyday activities and important milestones. Christine was the rock of her whole family - strong, brave, supportive, smart, funny, beautiful, caring and someone that everyone admired.
Christine will be remembered forever for the incredible woman that she was. May she rest in eternal peace knowing how much she is loved and will be missed.
