In memory of

Christina Alexandris

July 11, 1933 -  June 22, 2021

Christina was taken from this world suddenly Tuesday, June 22, 2021 when her heart finally gave out and she returned home to her beloved God. She will be sorely missed by her entire loving family, including her husband of 63 years, Diamantis (Jimmy); her daughters and sons-in-law, Eva (John), Gina (Nikos); her grandchildren Lee (Tanya), Daniel (Tanya), Yianni; and her precious great grandchildren Bianca, Ariana, Johnny, Gianpiero; together with many nieces, nephews, koumbari and friends.

Christina came to Toronto in 1956 as a young woman from Kalogonia, Sparti in Greece and started a beautiful new life in her adopted home of Toronto, Canada. Smart, confident, kind, generous, strong-willed, honourable and family-oriented, Christina had enjoyed her family and life in Greece as the youngest daughter of her hard working and proud beloved late parents, Spyros and Georgia Liakakos. Her full name, Christofili, literally translates to Christ’s kiss, and represents her lifelong faith. In Greece, she had loved and was loved by her siblings Meleti (and Toula); Tasia (and Demetraki); Panagioti; Fotini (and Panagioti); and Leonida; her nieces and nephews Panagioti, Spyro, Matina, Spyro, Yioula, Niko and Nitsa; and her many beloved cousins, Aunts and Uncles.

Upon her arrival in Toronto, with neither language nor funds, Christina worked hard in her new environment including at Morreys Restaurants, Frans and Swiss Chalet. Then, and throughout her life and work, she touched everyone with a smile, a kind word, a "sweetheart". And as family was important to her, as one niece recently commented, Christina was the bridge that brought many of her family to Toronto from Greece. Starting with her fiancé Diamantis (who she had only met through photos and letters - but theirs was a union for a lifetime), they then brought her brother Leonida and future brother-in-law George (who later married Fotini), sister Tasia and family, sister Fotini and family, and brother-in-law John.

Working shifts as a waitress and then together in their grocery and bakery businesses with Diamantis, Christina joyfully welcomed first their daughter Eva and then their second daughter Gina. In them Christina instilled her strong Spartan values, and was overjoyed in her next role as a and a wonderful yiayia to her grandsons Lee, Daniel and Yianni, and later when Tanya and Tanya joined the family, to her great grandchildren. They each share very special memories with their Yiayia Christina, from visits at Beran, to mini-golfing, to visits to Florida, to Bingo and card games, to little candy or chocolate treats and, of course, the infamous McDonalds runs! She could make each of them smile as broadly as they each made her smile.

In their later years, Christina with Diamantis created a lovely and fun-filled community of friends in Dunedin, Florida as snowbirds, who will miss her greatly.

The family extends a special thank you for the care and attention to Christina over many years by Dr. Michael Bazos and Dr. Marica Vargas and their teams.

Thea Christina will be greatly missed, especially her hugs. She was a true leader and a bridge to many relatives who migrated to Canada, including our father George. We will cherish the great memories we had at Theo Diamanti's and Thea Christina's home in Scarborough, especially the fun name day celebrations and holiday events as well as the exciting birthday parties at McDonalds!
May Thea Christina be with our Lord Jesus Christ and Our Most Holy Theotokos, may she rest in peace and may her memory be eternal!
