In memory of

歐陽釗 Chiu Benjamin Au Yeung

August 27, 1948 -  November 8, 2019

Ben Au Yeung passed away at the age of 71 on November 8, 2019 in Amman, Jordan. He was very much enjoying this long-awaited trip to Jordan and Egypt when a massive brain haemorrhage took him from our lives. Learning about the world was his passion and together with his wife Catherine, he had travelled extensively, reaching five continents and from the Arctic to the “end of the world” in Ushuaia. He will be profoundly missed by his beloved wife of 43 years, Catherine AuYeung, his adoring children, Brian and Karen AuYeung and their partners Derek Barnes and Scott Gennings, his mother Sau Kuen Lok, his sister Esther, and his brother Eric and wife Dora.

Music was the love of his life and he participated with passion, be it playing the classical guiitar, singing in two choirs, or just going to the opera or symphony. He worked especially hard to organize and promote the Chinese Canadian Choir of Toronto as its President for the past several years. He was also Vice-President of the condo board in his building. He was able to put himself fully into his music and his volunteer work after his retirement from Xerox where he was Project Manager for many years. Previous to that, he worked at the CIBC as a director before becoming an independent consultant in IT project management.

Ben was a principled and compassionate person who worked hard and passed on his morals and work ethic to his children to whom he was a mentor and role model. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he had touched – simply, a genuinely good man.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity in his memory. For a list of charities important to Ben, please click on the Donations link at the top of the page.

We were waiting for the pictures from Egyptian part of your journey, but it looks like we won’t see them anytime soon.
It was a shocking news to learn that Ben has left us. He looks so energetic and fit. From what we have read, Ben had a good life.
Although we met him not too long ago, but it felt like we were friends for a long time. We will miss him deeply.
Take good care yourself. Hope we can see you in the next trip to capture some good pictures together.
