In memory of

Doris Chin

April 13, 2020

Doris Maud Chin, née Wong Shui, passed away in her sleep at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Monday April 13th sadly three days after the sudden passing of her daughter Dianne due to complications from Covid-19.

Doris was born in Montego Bay, St. James parish, Jamaica -- one of 6 children to Lennie and Mary, and lived 89 years. Well known as a determined entrepreneur, she worked hard at starting several businesses and built popular bakeries in Jamaica and then in Canada after emigrating in 1977.

Predeceased by her husband Harold, son Errol, and daughter Dianne. She leaves 8 of her children - Keith, Randolph, Franklin, Hope, Valda, Brent, Floyd, Carol and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild (60+ progenies).

Doris was loved and embraced by the many who spent time with her at work, church, and leisure. Embraced by a large extended family, she served in leadership roles in many churches and was instrumental in establishing some churches both in Jamaica and Canada. Her goal was to share and help others to look forward to meeting her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

At her firstborn son (Keith's) wedding a family friend pointed out that Doris’ “house was in the middle of the street” because she always welcomed people into her home and continued to look after them. Recently Doris enjoyed getting together for bible studies, especially in her twice weekly visits to a seniors' care centre.

Doris will be greatly missed!

A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later time when conditions allow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to ADRA, which provides disaster relief and sustainability programs for those in need both in Canada and around the world. www.adra.ca https://www.adra.ca/

We'll greatly miss mom and Dianne. Horrific turn of events with Covid-19 over Easter weekend for our family. Doris was a delight at family get togethers (which can be large, having over 60 progenies), and got right into the flow with me on exchanging "very" humorous birthday cards in the month of October.
