In memory of

Chi Min Chen

November 29, 1944 -  November 8, 2024

On Friday, November 8, 2024, Chi Min (Joe) Chen passed away peacefully in Toronto, surrounded by his loving family. Chi Min was born and raised in Mumbai, India, the eldest son of Sheng Yuan (John) Chen and Heu Yun (Violet) Chen. He moved to Toronto in 1965, where he embraced a new life and, in 1969, married his beloved wife, Julie.

Chi Min’s passion for food and creating delicious recipes inspired him to pursue a fulfilling career as a chef for many years.

His love for food and cooking became a cherished tradition passed on to his children and grandchildren, turning family gatherings into lively feasts filled with happiness and delicious meals. In retirement, Chi Min and Julie discovered joy in travel, particularly cruising, exploring several continents, and creating lasting memories on trips - many of these trips shared with their children and grandchildren.

Chi Min is survived by his wife, Julie, and their children Kelly/Zoë (Michael F.), Jennifer (Clement L.), Violet (Callum Q.), and Jason (Sylvia M.). He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren. Chi Min is survived by his siblings Tony, Joyce and George and is predeceased by his sisters, Blossom and Lucy.

A funeral to honor and celebrate Chi Min's life will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024
at York Cemetery Funeral Home at 160 Beecroft Road, North York, Ontario M2N 5Z5.

Uncle was an incredibly kind and gentle man, who welcomed me into their home, and treated me like a member of the family. I will never forget his generosity, or the fact that he made the best strawberry shortcake I’ve ever had! He will be sorely missed.
