In memory of

Charlotte Susanna Berner

May 23, 1922 -  March 27, 2022

Charlotte Berner, our sweet Aunt, was a very strong person. She was always pushing the envelope. Before most women’s sports teams even existed, she was competing in baseball, bowling, basketball, tennis, and any other sport she could compete in.

Life for her began May 23, 1922 in a small town Torza, Yugoslavia. She always looked up to her two older brothers Bill and Henry. Charlotte loved watching and helping them work on cars. She was eventually able to purchase her pride and joy… a 1931 model A Ford she called, “Froggie.”

As a young woman her life soon changed with an overseas voyage and a new citizenship in Canada. She quickly adapted, dedicating her energies to her sports. Eventually she moved to New York and worked at Bulova watch company. Charlotte was always proud of being a dual citizen of Canada and United States. She fell in love and married Edward Berner. Sadly Edward died within several years of their marriage. Charlotte returned to Canada to care for her elderly parents. She still filled her life with family, exercise, helping others, and crossword puzzles. Luckily we had many wonderful times with Aunt Charlotte. She passed away peacefully March 27, 2022 at 99 years of age.

Her parents proceeded her in death. She is survived by her nephew William Bechtel, and his wife Linda and her niece Susan Lacker and husband Herman Lackner.

A memorial service will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery & Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough ON M1K 1R1 in Toronto, on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 beginning at 10am with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m.
