In memory of

Caroline McMurtry

February 19, 1935 -  June 25, 2023

Passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the age of 88. Loving wife of predeceased Thomas Allen McMurtry. Cherished mother of Edwin and his wife Sandra, Gary and his wife Laurie, and Kyle and his wife Colleen. Proud grandmother of Montana, Skyler, Huntyr, Caitlin, Aaron, Quinn, and Riley. Beloved great-grandmother of Weston and Rowen. Devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, and an avid pen & ink and watercolour artist who also developed a passion for travel later on in life.

Carolyn was born in Lakewood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. The second of two children, Carolyn looked up to her older brother Jimmy. She loved animals and shared this love with not only her children, but also with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Carolyn loved spending time at the cottage with her family. She enjoyed fishing and it was this pastime that led her to meet Allen (the love of her life) at Lakewood Lodge in the rustic little village of Coboconk, Ontario. She passed her love of fishing onto all three of her sons, and to her grandchildren as well.

Carolyn was a teacher at both Cliffwood Public School and Zion Middle School. Following that, she worked with H.H. Angus, the engineering firm that assisted in building the Rogers Centre. A lifelong lover of baseball, Carolyn cheered on her hometown team, the Cleveland Guardians (formerly the Cleveland Indians), and then her new hometown heroes, the Toronto Blue Jays. Carolyn even toured with the Blue Jays Fan Club to various ballparks across America.

An artist from an early age, Carolyn even traveled with other painters and artists on various excursions to Greece, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Quebec, and other numerous locations throughout Ontario. This is where she honed her skills in both watercolour painting and pen & ink. Carolyn even showcased her works in a series of art shows.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Personal Support workers, nurses, and doctors who took excellent care of Carolyn these past few years.

Caroline McMurty was a woman of warmth, and unwavering strength. Mrs. McMurty led a life of love and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.

Mrs. McMurty was known for her hospitality and genuine kindness. She welcomed countless friends of her children into her home, hosting parties and creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Many memories were made at her residence, including the memorable band sessions.

Alongside her husband Thomas, Caroline extended her hospitality beyond their home, opening their cottage to family and friends for summers filled with joy. These shared moments created lasting bonds and treasured memories for all who had the privilege of being a part of their lives.

Her generosity and appreciation for others were evident in her actions. I had the pleasure of standing up at her son's (Gary) and Laurie's wedding and Caroline took the time to personally express her gratitude to me and those who played a role in making the occasion memorable. Her kind words touched the hearts of those she thanked, a testament to her genuine and thoughtful nature.

To the entire McMurty family, we extend our deepest condolences. Caroline's passing is a loss felt not only by her loved ones but also by all those who were touched by her warm spirit and unflagging dedication as a matriarch. Her life will continue to live on through her wonderful family, who will carry her name and the values she instilled in them.

Rest in peace, dear Mrs. McMurty. Your presence will be deeply missed, but the memories you created and the love you shared will forever be cherished.

Respectfully,

Andrew Martyn
