Carlos Manuel Pereira passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 19, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Arrifes, Portugal, Carlos immigrated to Canada at the age of 24, embracing his new home with enthusiasm and dedication. He worked tirelessly for 37 years at IKO in Brampton, exemplifying the strong work ethic that defined his character
Carlos was predeceased by his beloved wife Maria and son-in-law Mark. He is survived by his children Nancy, Carmen (Paul), Diana (Davor), and Michael (Melissa), as well as his siblings Caetano, Joe (Donna), Maria (Peter), and Lisa (Steve). He was predeceased by his brother Anthony (Tony) and is survived by Tony's wife Terri. Carlos also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren, Justin, Kaitlin, Sierra, Luka, Marina, Milena and Michael. And his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
After retiring from IKO, Carlos found great pleasure in driving a catering van for Yummy Catering, delivering food to children’s schools and daycare facilities. His love for people was evident in the smile that would light up his face whenever he was around them.
His passion for soccer was legendary. He coached girls' and women's soccer teams for many years, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport. Every weekend, his children felt the intensity of his devotion to Benfica and Portuguese soccer.
Despite facing significant health challenges, Carlos rarely complained, facing his struggles with quiet dignity. His resilience was matched only by his sense of humour, as he loved to joke around and bring laughter to those around him.
Carlos’s life was a testament to the immigrant spirit that has enriched Canada. He worked hard, loved deeply, and embraced his adopted country wholeheartedly. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him and in the many lives he touched through his kindness, humor, and generosity.
