It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected, yet peaceful passing of Carlos Sr. at the age of 90.
On March 11, 2023 at North York General Hospital, with his family by his side, he started his new journey that he so well prepared himself for through his faith and spiritual nature.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Nazli, his sister Vera, brother Gerald, his children Marjorie (Peter), Carlos Jr. (Tiffany), grandchildren (Lisanna, Alberto, Michael, Marcella & Alana). He will also be deeply missed by his extended family on the Khan and Fernandes side.
In his earlier years, he was an exceptional cyclist and won the gold medal in the Trinidad Pan AM games in 1948. He was very proud of the bike his father imported for him from Scotland. It was named the “Flying Scott”. He went on to win many more races on the bike that was considered to be one of the finest in the sport.
He adored spending time with his family and was always there when advice or direction was needed. We could always count on him and the unconditional love and affection he had for all of us.
Throughout his life, Carlos was extremely dedicated to taking care of his health. This dedication to a healthy lifestyle helped him conquer stomach cancer after an operation at the age of 84. He fought it like a champ and never once complained throughout the term of his illness.
His three favourite and most often used words were strength, courage and wisdom. His strength and courage allowed him to start his new journey with great dignity. As Carlos would wisely say... “I must see my life as a work in progress. Nothing in my life is final!"
