In memory of

C.S. Mathews

May 8, 1938 -  February 9, 2019

On Saturday, February 9, 2019, C.S. Mathews, loving husband, friend, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 80. C.S was born on May 8, 1938, in Ranni, Kerala, India. He was the seventh of eight brothers in his family.

On November 17, 1966, C.S. married Thankamma Mathew. He and Thankamma were the first of their families to immigrate to Canada in 1967. Their sacrifice and courage to start a new life has created an immeasurable impact on the lives of countless people. His commitment to uniting his family in Canada and creating a church community for new families shall have a lasting impact.

Upon arrival in Canada, C.S. was enrolled in the Ontario Theological Seminary. Upon completion of his degree, he was looking into going into full-time gospel work, but with the arrival of their first son, he accepted a position at Canada Post the very next day. He continued to provide for his family during his 34-year career at Canada Post. C.S. continued to pursue his passion for teaching, as he loved and cherished the opportunity God gave him to become one of the founding elders at Bethany Chapel. He was among one of the first committee members of the Indian Brethren Fellowship conference that started in 1978 at Greenwood Hills, Pennsylvania; this conference has continued for the last forty years.

He had a loving and Christ-centered marriage with Thankamma for 52 years. Their two sons, Merrill and Mohan, hope to emulate their father’s selfless generosity and heart of service. C.S. was a beloved and gracious father-in-law to Jolleen and Kristina, and grandfather to his five grandchildren: Christian, Abigail, Caleb, Jessica, and Kaitlyn; who will all miss him dearly.
