In memory of

Jeannine (Janeen) Byman

December 10, 1935 -  May 19, 2021

It is with profound sadness, that we announce the passing of our mom, Janeen, at 85 years young. She is survived by her two daughters, Shelly (Bert) and Brenda (Stacey), her brother Leo Fournier (Mia), Jim Fournier, Joanne Lavoie, Wally Hirst (Karen), many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Mom was predeceased by our dad, Leonard, her parents George and Josephine Fournier, her brother Dennis and sister Patricia.

Mom was born and raised in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. She survived polio at age five, was married at eighteen and moved to Ontario shortly afterwards. With strong family roots, mom would be sure to return home to LdB as often as her busy life would allow. Following her stay-at-home period to raise her young daughters, mom worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement to her cottage in Dorset, Ontario. This was mom’s cherished home, a place surrounded by nature and friendships developed through her many years of dedicated volunteer service including the Dorset Volunteer Fire Department, Red Cross, Victim Services, Dorset Community Policing and treasurer for the local ratepayers’ association to name a few. Mom spent many hours selling raffle tickets for the Dorset Fire Department resulting in their purchase of a new fire boat they named the “Janeen B”. Mom was also a member of the Legion and a fiercely proud Canadian.

Mom’s claim to fame was her passion for rescuing vintage dolls of all types and her creative talent for repairing, designing and making their costumes. Her collection includes thousands of unique and impressive creations, a reflection of mom’s full and rewarding life. We miss you mom. We love you mom.

We are grateful for the care and support provided by the healthcare professionals during this time. Donations may be made in mom’s memory to the Royal Canadian Legion, The War Amps or Children’s Wish Foundation. Private service to be held in Dorset.

So very sorry to hear of Janeen’s passing. A group of us played dice together for years and she always had stories to share. She played such a huge part in enabling us to purchase a fire boat which was aptly named “The Janeen B.” We couldn’t have done it without her. I can still see her face when we unveiled it. She was always there to help with whatever fundraiser was going on. We shared many annual garage sales over the years. I did get to see her amazing collection of dolls - quite a talent. Rest In Peace Janeen. You will be missed but there are sooooo many memories.
