In memory of
Bruno Chioran
June 26, 1927 -
December 15, 2022
Proud son of Agostino and Emilia Chioran. Survived by his beloved wife Alba, children Alberto (Lorena) and Juan Carlos (Jacklyn), granddaughters Alexa (Michael) and Zara, sister Anna and brothers Lucio, Giuseppe and Paolo.
He grew up modestly in a share cropping family in Veneto and had to leave school at the end of grade 6 as he was needed to work on the farm during his teenage years. He completed his military service in 1947 working as an aeronautics mechanic gaining valuable knowledge that would serve him well later in his career. He left post war Italy for Argentina in January 1950. Married by proxy to Alba Bertola on September 30, 1951, she later joined him where they spent the next 24 years. His jobs were factory worker, ambulance driver, hotelier/restauranteur and finally auto mechanic where he put his army education to good use. If it had moving parts, Bruno could fix it. If some part broke, he could make a new one.
In March 1975, immigrating a second time he settled with the family in Toronto amongst the many relatives that had come previously. His life consisted of family, work, his faith and the enjoyment of artisanal old world crafts like winemaking, salumi, grappa, gardening and preserving; skills he was happy to pass on. If not doing one of these things, he could be found in his workshop fixing something for a neighbour or relative, or fabricating something that could not be purchased. An engineer’s mind with a craftsman’s hand and an eye for exactitude. We are the poorer for his loss but very much the richer for him having graced this earth for 95 glorious years.
