In memory of

Geoffrey Reginald Brown

August 8, 1932 -  May 8, 2023

Wing Commander (Retired) Royal Air Force

Thus ends the life of the wonderful husband of Ruth (née Brudenell, died September 25, 2021); father to Nigel and Adrian (Tracey); grandfather to Liam (Sarah) and Owen (Lex); and all around fun-loving, over-achieving gentleman.

Eldest of eight, he was nicknamed "Doc" from an early age, as he was always studying with his nose in a book and a desire to know more, do more and go further afield. His father died when Geoff was in his early twenties, and he took on the role of stand-in father to his seven younger siblings, breadwinner and role model. His six remaining brothers and sisters and their ever-expanding families were always a source of love, fun and merriment for him over his many years.

Geoff never stood still, he was always on the move. He had a stellar career in the R.A.F., travelling the world with the love of his life and two small boys, and gained the rank of Wing Commander at a young age. In 1975, he made the difficult choice to immigrate to Canada for new adventures and became a stalwart Canadian, loving the country and the diversity. His engineering background took him through positions at Motorola, the Ontario Ministry of Energy and the Toronto and York Boards of Education, making lifelong friends along the way.

He and Ruth travelled around the world and spent many fondly remembered years at their winter home in Port Charlotte, Florida. Laughter was never far away in our family. Parkinson's Disease ("that wretched thing") took much from him, but there remained a twinkle in his eye and a doggedness of purpose to wring everything out of every moment.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 10 am at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, followed by a Service in our Chapel at 11 am, with a gathering form 12 - 2 pm. For online condolences, please leave a message for the family in the Guestbook. Livestream of the service will be available on this site on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 10:45 am.

The family would like to sincerely thank the tireless, kind and respectful caregivers that helped Geoff in his last years. The care and empathy at Chester Village was truly remarkable.

Donations in the name of Ruth and Geoffrey Brown to the North York General Foundation (nyghfoundation.ca) would be appreciated.

This has to end with one of his favourite Midlands expressions:

"And there he was....gone."

Adrian,

Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this difficult time. No words can express the hurt and longing of losing a parent and now you have lost both. We hope that your cherished memories allow you to reminisce about what your Dad meant to your family and all the people in the community that his bright light shone upon. Take the time to think about how blessed you are to have Tracy at your side and may both of you continue to be in good health for many more years to come.

Sincerely,
Sabrina and Nick

We have been saddened by the passing of both Ruth and Geoff. Both were wonderful, interesting, and caring people whose company we enjoyed at Tapestry—condolences to your families. Well remembered.

Sympathy and condolences to the family. It was such a pleasure meeting and staying with Adrian at Geoff and Ruth's house in the late 80s after returning from our London adventures, driving from Detroit to Toronto with Harriet (Lurensky) Kuhn.

Dear Nigel, Adrian & Tracey and Family
No doubt your father, Geoff, lived a rewarding life, adventures, travelled the word, married the love of his life, your beloved mother, blessed with two amazing boys and grandchildren and was always surrounded by family and friends over the many years. We will always remember Geoff for his kind, gentle and friendly demeanor. May he rest in peace now and reunite with your beautiful mother Ruth.
Our heartfelt condolences. Sincerely Ken & Rosa
