In memory of
Bridget Eleanor Evelyn
September 2, 1935 -
September 28, 2022
It is with deepest sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our beloved mother, Bridget Eleanor Avis Evelyn.
Bridget passed away peacefully at home (from dementia) surrounded by love on Wednesday, September 28th, 2022.
Bridget Evelyn was born on September 2, 1935, to Arthur and Beryl Danney of Georgetown, Guyana. She, like the rest of her siblings, worked at the “drug store” pharmacy owned by her dad. Then, later she worked at Bookers Sugar estates. She met the love of her life, Joseph and they were married in 1962, and out of that union, they were blessed with 2 boys.
She is survived by her brothers, Derek and Eon, and sisters, Ann and Faye. She carried in her heart, her husband Joe, and her siblings Amanda and Claudette, who now await her in paradise. Her faith in God is what often carried her through life’s challenges and for that, we are truly grateful.
She was the proud mother to her sons: Gregory and Dirk, daughter in law, Jennifer and grandmother to her cherished grandchildren, Jaden and Rhianna. Also left to mourn are family members, Carol, Patricia, Gordon, Lana and many nieces and nephews.
Bridget was a stay-at-home mom initially, and had the joy of raising her two sons until they were teenagers; and they were subsequently sent to Canada to pursue their studies.
Meanwhile, Bridget and Joe continued to work in Guyana, and in 1995, migrated to join their sons and the rest of the family in Canada. Her immediate and extended family meant to world to her, and she looked forward to the annual Christmas parties and summer get togethers where they would share old time stories late into the night.
Bridget had an amazing sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She was quiet, but very caring, and made her family laugh with her come backs or quick wit. She was kind, generous and compassionate. Even when she spoke in anger, she was often the first to apologize and to try to heal what was broken.
Bridget loved cooking and trying out different recipes. She was also an avid reader, and enjoyed learning about healthy lifestyles, the occasional novel and browsing through cooking magazines. As it was in her younger years, she enjoyed listening and dancing to the fine music of Nat King Cole, Shirley Bassey, Natalie Cole, and many others.
Bridget will be missed by all those that she’s left behind.
Our family is especially grateful for the Private Caregivers, and Home Instead Caregivers, Personal Support Workers from SRT Medstaff, the Care coordinators at the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integrated Network, and the Palliative Care Team from Care Partners.
Our hearts are so broken, but we were truly loved and blessed to have had her in our lives.
