In memory of

Brian William Gilbart

April 10, 1945 -  May 18, 2017

Peacefully began his final journey on Thursday, May 18th 2017 at Etobicoke General Hospital in his 72nd year after bravely surviving prostate cancer for over two decades. Predeceased by his parents Blanche and Harry Gilbart. Loving husband and best friend of Donna Marie for 43 years. Cherished brother of Ken (Marie), Lynn (Jim), Joyce, and sisters-in-law Anita (Frank), Mary-Anne (the late William), Lawrene (Paul), and will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Brian was born in Toronto on the 10th of April, 1945. He graduated from York University, and was a dedicated teacher in the Toronto District School Board until he retired. His fondest times were those spent with Donna at Skeleton Lake, where they opened their cottages to family and friends, helping form treasured memories surrounded by soft beaches, incomparable sunsets, and Brian's gentle spirit.

An enthusiastic athlete and cribbage player, Brian was passionate about sports, especially the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays for whom he had an unwavering loyalty. Brian was an avid reader, and a lover of movies and music, with a deep smoky voice made for stages never graced. We'll always remember Brian for his generosity, kindness, and an infectious laugh whose playfulness betrayed a quiet stoicism.

The family would like to extend its thanks to all the staff in the CCU at Etobicoke General Hospital. As Brian would frequently say in the final few weeks, "You are the true heroes of this world". In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Etobicoke General Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Our fondest memories of Brian go back to Skeleton Lake. We spent many wonderful hours at his cottage enjoying beautiful sunsets and warm friendships. He was always so generous and welcoming. A true gentleman, he made us feel at home and always special. We will miss Brian's contagious smile and loving heart.
Rest in peace dear friend. You were well loved. ❤️

I was very saddened to hear that Brian passed away.

Brian was always present in our home, growing up! No special event was ever needed, as our door was always open to him. Brian had a gentle soul, a kind heart and loving words that always made you feel special and happy. He was a true gentleman and fun to be with.

I am heading out of the country and sadly, cannot attend the celebration of his life. My thoughts and prayers go out to Donna and family during this time. Sincere regards. Mary

I have great memories of spending time with Brian at the Cardinal Leger staff parties. He was such a kind, friendly person!

I have fond memories of being a guest of Donna and Brian in their rented homes in Florida, two years in a row. We ladies from Toronto went there to shop until we dropped.Brian drove us in the van. When one store closed at 9:00 pm he drove us to one that closed at 10:00 pm and then to one that closed at 11:00 pm. I remember seeing him sitting on a bench in one store, first reading a book, and then sleeping, waiting for us to finish checking out all the bargains. We had a good laugh back at the house. The neighbours must have thought it was harem with one guy and 4 ladies coming and going. Thanks for the memories!
