In memory of

Bozo Relic

February 26, 1940 -  April 30, 2021

It is with great sadness The Relić family announces the passing of Božo Relić on April 30, 2021 in his 82nd year at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie following a long courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Milka for 59 years. Dear father of Danny (Pamela), Anjelica (Brian), and Bogdanka. Loving grandfather to Tristina, Samantha, Jason, Tristan, Trimell, Trirell, Trimane, Tia and great-grandfather to Novalee. Cherished brother of Pavao (Mara), Mika and Evica. Loving uncle of Slobodan, Bogdan, Rada and Dejan.

Born in Croatia, Božo’s heart was never far from his roots in his beloved Pecka, his family and friends. He built a new life in Canada for over 45 years with his dear wife Milka and family, and spent his long happy retirement years in Barrie, enjoying the outdoors and the companionship of their much-loved doggies.

Bozo was a quiet man with the biggest heart who lived his life simply. He never criticized or judged as he believed people lived their lives in the best way they knew how or the way that suited them most. He loved deeply and forgave easily. His family was the focus of his life. For 25 years he worked at a back breaking job in a tannery to ensure his family never lacked anything, often working double shifts without hesitation or complaint. He never sought riches or possessions and reminded us often both verbally and by his actions wealth was love of family and friends. For anyone who needed help, he was the first to step in and help in any way he could. Even when there was nothing he could do, he was there offering his quiet love and support.

COVID-19 changed how we lived life. When in-home visits were no longer possible, his life was enriched by the constant care and companionship of his wife Milka and granddaughter Tristina and by the many friends and family that visited and spent happy times on his front porch where he liked to sit, drink his coffee, chat and hear about the happenings in the world. For those who were far away, Croatia, Serbia and from all over the world, the frequent and lengthy telephone calls reminiscing about old days and keeping him company were cherished and we are grateful for same.

Bozo was blessed with friends who through their love and devotion became our family. Our gratitude and love to Pam, Jimmy, Chelsey and Abby, Carl, Robin and Maya for their care, friendship and kindness. We are forever grateful.
Our family is grateful to the wonderful medical team, Dr. Attupatu, Dr. McClelland, Dr. Ioca, Dr. Tam, Dr. Singh, Julie Burns and the incredible nurses at Royal Victoria Hospital for their care and comfort and compassion. Our eternal gratitude to nurse Daniella who was with him when he passed away.

Just as COVID-19 has changed how we live, it has also changed how we grieve. Due to current restrictions, a private family service will be held at the York Funeral Centre followed by interment at York Cemetery. Just as he lived simply, on May 3, 2021, Bozo Relic will be simply laid to rest.

Dear Dad,
I want to thank you for the gift of life. I want to thank you for being the only one to believe in me when no one else did. Your true love and dedication to me is what made me who I am today! I want to thank you for all YOU sacrificed to provide for me. I want to thank you for YOUR TRUE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE YOU GAVE ME! It’s YOU whom guided me to never give up...I remember our time with your first battle with cancer and I got the honour of spending 31
days with you , day and night....we were a team..but daddy I remember you being so loving but extremely stubborn no matter how hard I tried to avoid the conversation ....on if the day came where you were called home to GOD’S GOLDEN GATE that you were ok with it, that you lived to a golden age.You encouraged me to continue to carry on with strength and happiness ...that I was still young and that you could not be more proud of me , you couldn’t be more honoured and blessed with your 6 grandchildren and was beyond honoured that you lived to the age to be a great grandfather. Daddy I want to thank you as you were struggling with your health conditions to have the strength to remain strong to prepare me for this very day....😢. The day GOD CALLED YOU HOME💔🙏😢 I want you to know I will forever and always love you and make sure your legacy lives on through me🙏💔😢

Now daddy it’s time for you to rest🙏💔as your job on this earth has been done🙏😢

May your soul REST IN PEACE!🙏🙏🙏💔😢

Your Bogdanka for ever and always😢.

Our hearts are so heavy but yet so full of loving memories of sweet Deda❤️
It all started 18 years ago when our Military family, drove from Nove Scotia to Barrie, nine months pregnant, moved next door to an incredibly caring , generous couple who quickly became good friends and then family. Our daughter Maya was born shortly after we moved in and spent the first 5 years of her life hanging out right next door. Milka and Bozo soon became Babi and Deda( grand mother and grandfather) She loved all of her time with them but especially with Deda, from walking the dog(s) , watching their birds in the kitchen and especially loved it when the rabbits were visiting. The times when Deda would teach Maya some Yugoslavian words was the best! Hearing and seeing the two of them together was priceless❤️ Carl spent countless hours with Bozo as they both loved keeping their lawns and properties in prestige shape. It was a sad day when our next Military adventure moved us a few hours away but we promised to always kept in touch and visit. Many years of birthdays and Christmas celebrations continued. Even our last visit when Maya was 16, Deda still asked her to come sit next to him. You just knew how much he loved and missed his Maya and all of us.
Deda is now our guardian Angel and still looking out for us all. Rest well sweet Bozo💙 We love you!
